Arm position with the bars has to be the culprit....

Pullback handlebars and driver's backrest (with some modification) solved most of the problem.

Yup, pull back bars and the back rest. Worked for me. Not sure what floor board extenders have to do with it but,.....whatever.......

wow, thanks for all the great input. Thought about the muscle relaxers but that driving under the influence makes me nervous.

I have a corbin seat and an HD after market touring seat. Seems better with the HD seat, but then again I only ride that seat when my wife is with me. When we are both on the corbin seat I feel it more but not as bad as when I'm solo.

I have had the bike since last Sept and have always had a little trouble but my ride sunday really got me.

I'm pretty sure the bars are after market.

I have never had this problem with any other bikes I have had.

Think I might try pulling my bars back a little so I'm not reaching as far, pushing my helmet forward a little and keeping my arms in a little and see if that helps.

Thanks for all the input, you folks are the best.

Default back pain

I had a 04 road king with heritage bars, back rest, and sundowner seat. That cured my shoulder blade pain. Did 4000 trip last year no pain. Now I have a 09 road glide and heritage bars and back rest and I get the pain. So I will play with the position of the bars and may be get the sundowner seat. Just wanted to let you know you need to find the right mixture.
Good luck!!!

Sales pitch.... A little tired of seeing them... but anyway...

I get the same thing on my bike. After about 50-80 miles, my lower back starts to hurt, and then it works its way up to my shoulders. I don't think I am sitting on the bike right, and I think I need to adjust the bars some...

Yeah, seeing the sales advertisement on most threads is getting a little old.

Tom here again. For those who do not understand how floorboard extensions can help your lower back, listen up. By moving the position of you feet out to the sides a bit, it changes where the pressure on your back is. I have had quite a few customers state that adding these have relieved their lower back pain.

Upper back pain is a whole different animal. I was simply trying to offer some suggestions that might help the person who posted this thread. I still think he needs new bars first as when I see than angle of the grips on those in the sig pic I cringe. When I had taller bars on my bike I preferred for them to be a bit more forward, as opposed to coming back to me. But seating is kinda like how do you wear your hair. Different for everyone. That's all for now from me.

Regards,
Tom

From your sig picture, looks like you have some pretty wide bars on there. Might want to look for a pair of stock or at least narrower bars, and with enough pullback for a backrest. Get the backrest on, then see how far the bars need to come back to actually be able to lean up against the backrest shile riding.

When you ride two-up you tend to sit more erect with better posture. Riding solo you tend to slump more. Trust me, a riders back rest WILL help.

heck i'm sorta tall, at 6-4, and i have a bit of a reach to the bars on my o8 sg. i end up setting the cruise control, and using just the left hand to ride most of the time on the hiway. twisting my shoulders to reduce the reach to the left grip. one other thing i found out early on with my sg. they need more air in the rear shocks than ultras, cause they have shorter shocks. i know this cause i hit some pot holes with five or six psi in the shocks, and spent a week in the hospital with pneumonia. whenever your back gets outa whack with pain, you reduce your air intake and can turn in to a medical problem. now i use 20 psi riding solo, no problems. far better.
