I have 2 bad disks in my lower back, with the stock seat and bars on my 00EGC I can ride all day long with no issues, but as soon I get out of the saddle watch out that's when it hits me.
When I got my King, I'd get about 15 miles then get the pain between the blades in my upper back. Gave it a week, then swapped out for a set of police bars (56569-86) which are a little different than the Heritage bars, and no problems since.
Not sure if HOG magazine Europe edition is the same as the US version, but the latest edition has a section discussing pains and discomfort you can experience and how to resolve it. A very good article I felt
Rider Backrest helped me a good bit, I agree Bars are a biggie, My Road King came with Beach Bars that were 36" wide, for a short guy, 5'7" it was too wide. I went with the Wildone Chubby Road King Bars and a Rider Backrest with the lowprofile seat. I could ride all day. On my EGC I am using the stock seat and bars with a Backrest and Highway pegs and it works well.
I met a guy at Daytona about 6 years ago that had Baby Apes (I think they were 10-12") and he said they were the most comfortable bar he had ever used. He had major back problems including surgery. He said those bars raised his hand position and took the pressure off of his back and he could ride all day.
You need to find the combination of bars, seat ect that will make you feel the best.
I think the Backrest is one of the best investments you can buy imho. It has helped on both of my bikes.
Wow, lots of great stuff here. Thanks to everyone. It blows my mind how many of us have the same problems but will not let a little pain stop us from doing what we love.
I had ,what I thought to be, back problems and had to take pain pills while on a 4 day trip, which I don't recommend on 2 wheels or 4. After several visits to the chiropractor I went to a regular doc. The problem was a pinched and damaged nerve in the right forearm where I had been resting my arm to much on my car's arm rest. Since the surgery I have had no problems. The problem really showed itself when my arms were stretched out on the bike's handle bars.
I lowered my bars and this helped some. I would get a pain in my right shoulder blade. Now not nearly as bad. A cheap fix.I hope not temporary but is working for now.

Same here ,no problem riding it is when I get off the bike .Previous injury not from riding .< Working >
When I first got my 08 I had the same problem, I moved my bars back 3/4's of an inch and my pain went away. Its amazing how just a small adjustment can make that big of a difference. Good Luck, I know its a bit## riding like that. TIm
