In the past I have generally used my half-helmet with a good set of goggles and a neoprene face wrap. I've also put the rain jacket's hood up and my helmet over it with googles in front. Worked pretty well, but not always as dry or comfortable as it could be.
With this last trip, and after riding 800+ miles in the rain all in one day, I've begun to think about rain gear and helmets a little differently. For the first time in a very long time I have a bike with a TourPak. Putting a full face (modular, probably) helmet in there for long trips might not be a bad idea.
Also, try the Skate Mate antifog wipes that hockey players use. There is a spray bottle as well, but I actually like the wipes better. They are use and dispose of products that are easy carry on a bike.
A couple folks have mentioned the diving mask solutions (spit, being the oldest and sometimes best choice). Here's a couple products that I've used when diving:
I wear a half helmet and use safety glasses in the rain. I have a 6.5 in windshield, so the rain's gonna hit you in the face. I keep a neoprene lower face mask (same one I use on cold days, and it works great to keep the pelting rain from hurting my face. I thought I might try a Scorpion exo 100 with the hidden flip down shield, but the thing looks to be the fattest of fat helmets!
I've carried my 3/4 helmet with a flip shield when I knew it was going to rain but I don't want to keep it in the tourpak every day. When we packed up for a week in Maggie Valley last month, I thought about taking it along but didn't have any extra room to pack it in there. I'd like to find a good pair of clear glasses (without foam) that I don't have to worry about adding rain-ex to all the time. A short /flat snap-on shield would be good too because they don't take up any space.
Wow, those "secondfaceon" masks are crazy looking. I never saw them anywhere before...
I ride in rain almost every day, here in sunny Puerto Rico. With the stock 12' windshield and a half helmet and safety glasses it works for me. I ride about 22 miles to and from work on the interstate. Just make sure to use your 4 ways if it's raining hard, it works for me.

That is exactly what I do also. Some safety glasses and my half helmet. Rain Gear? Also, thanks for the tip on waxing the windshield... use to do that with my cars also. Don't know why I didn't think about it for my bike!
