Default GPS With FM Transmitter???

Is anyone using a GPS with an FM transmitter built in? I like to listen to my CD while riding and thought that when I get into traffic or need the GPS, I could just switch over to FM and already have it on that station. Is anyone else doing this?

Thank you for the response. How do the directions sound through the radio? Are you able to hear them well on the highway?

I have the NUVI 750. Use the FM all the time. Only problem is when you get close to big cities. It seems like trying to find a FM station not being used is a pain. But the music sounds good and I hear the GPS directions fine.

Thank you for the response. I'm liking what I'm hearing so far.

I have a Nuvi 760 and I have had the same effect. I ended up buying a 3ft cable (3.5mm plugs) that allows me to connect into the Ultra's radio system directly. I can't swear to it, but I think the cable gives me just a little better sound. Then again, I use a RoadyXT to pick up my XM signal, so the Y-cable allows me to hook up both GPS and Roady without worrying about FM signals and conflicts.

I've not really used the voice directions, they seem to come in too late for me. I prefer to glance at the display and see the distances in numbers and on the map. I can tell when a turn is coming up before the voices tell me.

Plus, the voices from the GPS sometimes conflict with the voices in my head.

Agree with the 3.5mm solution. FM sounds great in principle, but I always end up being disappointed, whether in my car or on the bike, ipod or satnav, it always ends up being more hassle that just hardwiring and being done

So the 750, 760 and 780 all have a jack to plug into the aux port of the stock ultra stereo then? I was wondering about that also. I've had a couple of GPSs in my cages and never an output jack.

Smile Tired of FM

I tried using FM once....I got tired of having to find an unused and clear frequency while traveling, cities are a big pain. The sound will be MUCH better if you use your Aux input on the radio. Garmin is a great company to deal with if you ever have a problem.
