Default Speakers 4ohm

Ok... before I get a beat-down....I did a search and read a lot about speakers. I am thinking I am going to get JBL GTO527.

OK, here is what I know...
1) The Harmon Kardon HD radio is 2ohm. After 2006 it went from 4 ohm and 2ohm. That unit is on its way this week.
2) Stock speakers suck... apparently.

Here is my question
So what would happen if I put 4ohm speakers in instead of 2ohm? Does this mean the the stereo unit has to work harder to reach peak levels with a 4ohm speaker?

Thanks for you help.

Yes, it has to work harder, but you should speak with Firecap. Generally, you might get away with it, but also might fry your head unit and the speakers will be underpowered. When I upgraded my front speakers, I went with 6.5" Polk MM651 coaxials because they were rated at 2.7Ω. With a little fade forward, they power just fine and sound great. Even with straight through exhaust, my stereo can be too loud on the highway.

I added HogTunes front speakers, AMP, and Tweeter Bar. The biggest difference is that if you listen to music (and in my case the Zumo 550) the faster you go, the more volume you need from the speakers. (Assuming that you are not using earbuds or helmet speakers...that's another whole discussion in itself).

The HogTunes installation allow me to get the volume up with no distortion and excellent low and high range. Tweeter sound is especially sensitive as it cannot penetrate many of the additions we add to the Handle bars. For example, my Zumo and 20oz mug are in front of both speakers. By adding the tweeter bar, the high range is above all that and pointing right at me. Meanwhile the amp really lets the low range come from those speakers.

Installation instructions were very easy to follow with the only issue I had was in having to have a friend hold up the gas tank so that I could route the amp wiring back to battery.

I know that others have tried the Hogtunes and removed them as well, but I can tell you after riding about 2,000 miles in all kinds of conditions over the past month or so, that they were well worth the investment for me. So much so, that I am considering replacing the rear speakers with HogTunes as well

Those speakers were pretty popular about 2 yrs ago and go for a good price on e-bay.
I would match the ohms to the radio unless you plan on adding an amp.
If you do a search for the speakers, you should find a lot of info on them here.
Also search for "the ABC's of speaker comparison".I think thats the title?

The 4ohm speaker in theroy will not be as loud, because it is more efficient than a 2ohm. But also in theroy if you have a more eficient speaker the amplifier section of your radio will have a larger range and should play at higher volumes with out getting outside of its comfort zone, but this is all theory. If upgrading and not adding an amplifier you need to look at a speaker with a 90db or higher sensitivity rating.

interesting, if I understand what your saying, its ok t get 4ohm if I dont get an amp, as long as the sensitivity is 90 or higher. This would widen the choices I would have in speakers. I dont plan on getting an amp.

all I wanna do is listen to some of this....
