I understand this is a touring forum but I belong and participate here so I'm going to ask here, I hope that is ok..
I'm trying to find a problem my buddy is having with his '06 Night Train. He can ride around town all day without any problem but as soon as he get's on the freeway and exit's, the bike idles down and die's. Then immediatly starts up again. I have recently installed a set of 16" ape's for him but since this problem started, I've removed the tank, checked all wiring and eliminated any possibility of that job causing this problem. I'm at a lose as far as where to go from here. He has a Thunderheader and a Ness Big Sucker intake and since I see no external fuel management system I'm going to assume the previous owner did a HD stage 1 download. Can anyone suggest where I can go from here? Thx in advance, Rich
I've had this issue once or twice, if i'm at prolonged constant rpm and then come off the throttle, the RPMs will dip well below idle, and the bike might stall unless i "goose it a little. if i manually maintain rpms for a second, it will even out. it doesn't seem to happen often enough, or even predictably so i haven't really worried about it. I'll keep an eye out to see what others have to say though.
I just fixed that problem on mine. If I am reading your issue correctly. The bike would not idle. I have replaced the idle motor ( the name is wrong), but it the part that controls the idle on the intake body. It is right behind the air cleaner body. Three 5/16" head screws and it is off. The replacement part is $60.00.
I had the same problem on my 06 Ultra. It was intermitten(sp) and I could never demonstrate the problem at the dealer. It only happened about 3 times and then just stopped. I kind of thought it might have been a fuel problem or something. Hope you can find it.
