Smile TC 103 Oil temperature you ain't gonna believe

180 Degrees @ 80 MPH on a 90 degree day! It's a 2007 Road Glide with SE 204 cams, 103" kit with 10.1 cast flatop pistons, SE aircleaner, free flowing mufflers. Powercommander running with nightrider IED's on the O2 sensors, Oil cooler. Oil sending unit located in tank. i know that may be information overkill but just letting everyone know the exact setup i have. Guage is right, measured the temp with 2 different temp dipsticks and infared temp guage. Took it for a 75 mile ride sunday and i couldn't get the temperature any higher than 180 even running 90 MPH for a few miles. No abnormal heat coming from engine. Now it does run hotter in town but not over 200. Okay now with all the reports of hot running TC 96's what gives here? I figure it's getting rid of the EPA cams and using the SE 204's. Certainly it's not the O2 sensors cause i still have them. Haven't ran the bike long enough to check mileage on this setup but looks like around 45 mpg and runs like the proverbial ape with the striped rear end. No backfiring or popping or anything abnormal. I'd be interested in hearing if anyone else has oil temps like these.

My 103" Stage III normally runs between 201 and 218, from what I have been watching...but then I haven't been monitoring closely.

I have a TC96 with 255's and a cooler, but am running 14.5 AFR's in the cruise range, which is near stock. I run about 180° for a while, even on hot days, but it'll creep up to about 195-200° after a while at highway speeds in summer. It won't exceed that while I'm moving >40mph or so and has hit 230° a few times in heavy summer traffic. I can switch to a richer map on the PCV to help with head and oil temps but rarely do so, as I consider this range to be acceptable.

BTW, how's your gas mileage?

Mind you, the #'s I've been seening for my bike are typically when I 'remember' to look and that is usually after I've been riding in traffic while in town.

My Ultra runs right at 230 dgs. f @ 75 MPH. This is with the lower fairings on and the vents open. I have my mpg up to 40 at this speed, it was @ 30 mpg untill I started reducing ignition advance and adding fuel. On May 29, 2009 in traffic @ junction of I-12 and I-10 temps went to 250 with the Lenale Fan on. This was down in Iclicks area. Temps stayed on 230 f all the way from Baton Rouge to Laffeyette. Right now, running 75 mph, at -8 dgs time and 13.6 afr in the cruise range and still have 230 dg temps, and some light detonation when lightly rolling on a little bit of throttle at cruise. It is probably because of the high CHT's. I sure envy your 180 f oil temps.

It's the cooler . . .

I ran my bike with the stage 1 and gauge but no cooler. Temps were 220 to 230 and even hotter in traffic. Added the cooler and now my numbers are the same as yours.

ALL TC96 MOTORS (or TC103, TC107, TC110 especially) SHOULD HAVE A COOLER!
