might as well jack this thread. i did remove the brackets from the whole bike and am holding the bracket with the strap in my hand (??) i think it is a rivet and non removable.
-----------
regarding any problems. hole in the front of swing arm and had to drill a hole in the plastic belt guard, no loose bolts yet, and the factory stereo presets don't work right away when i first turn on the bike. runs pretty hot even which stage 1 (i have a california version). but, even with these minor issues in my opinion, still love my 09 roadglide and plan on keeping it for a long time. it wouldn't be a harley without at least a few issues.
That is correct. I just left the whole bracket off.
that was me that you are kind of quoting. it was part sarcasm and part not. I am one of the ones with the swing arm issue. there have not been a ton of problems, and truth be known, I am sure a few of them are ones that were experienced with other year models as well. bolts coming loose is one of those things that is going to happen with something that vibrates a bit. All in all, I am very happy with my 09 FLHR, as I am sure you will be if you make the trade
OK, Cool - thanks for clearing that up.
Really, I wasn't bashing the 09s, I really want one - I just got a little spooked and started thinking (something that always gets me in trouble) that maybe I should ask the collective wisdom if there are things I should know about. It's gonna be hard to part with my Dyna and I didn't want to step in anything that I could have known up front.
I've had my 09 ultra classic 3 months and 5,000 miles
did have a problem with the throttle but dealer was able to fix pretty quick
but wouldn't trade that ride in for nothin
I think Harley got this one right. The only problem I think they created was those cast wheels and the difficulty I have with checking air pressure. Other than that, sweet ride...
I believe it was on a thread that was talking about motor mounts coming loose or something. One of the comments was, "another 09 problem". That led me to think that maybe there were bunches of 'em, hence my post.
OK I think I know the thread you're talking about now... He had a couple transmission bolts he found loose underneath that chrome "Six Speed" cover. Then he told his buddy who's were also a bit loose. He then made the comment "not another '09 problem" but I think he may have said that tongue-in-cheek.
That's the only time I've heard of that happening. And in fact in the numerous threads on the '09 Touring bikes that's the ONLY single complaint I've seen at all other than the tire stem is hard to access to add air to the tires.
From what I've seen here in countless threads the '09 Touring bikes have been a huge problem-free success like no other particular year model I've seen here. I think you're safe if you go with one...
PS: 13,500 miles since the last week in December and ZERO problems - just smiling every moment of the way!
The only problem I have seen is that they waited too long to redesign the frame I love mine, it makes my 01 feel like you were riding a noodle ( and it had a TWR missing link).
I have had 3 minor problems, 1st water in the taillight on the fender, no biggie, 2nd saddlebag bracket the U that holds the muffler, weld broke, 3rd 1 mount on the tourpack backrest broke.
No problems here on either of my 09s. If I were beginning the search now, however, I'd probably wait just to see what the 10s have to offer.
thanks and good point!
I'm renting an 09 FLHR in Utah next week for three days and, I've got some other "financial errands" to take care of so, when all that is said and done, probably around first part of July, I'll get REAL serious about this.
Already got the OK from the Mrs, so I'm all clear there!
I'm also thinking that if there are no big changes in the MY10 bikes, I may find me a 09 vivid black FLHR that some dealer wants off his floor - maybe get a deal or sumthin' (yea right)
Thanks for all the thumbs-up guys, makes me feel a lot better!
It is so close to the 2010s comming out I would wait, there will be better deals on the 09 if you want one of the older models, never know what might be just around the corner,I'm sure that bug issues with the older 09 will be addresed on the latest models.
