hey guys, I was getting on taconic pkwy last week when I really had to jump on it in 3rd gear..then shift to 4th then 5th..didn`t over rev at all..maybe 3500..after in 5th I start hearing a metalic tapping noise..I thought maybe I collapsed a lifter..but it`s strange because it goes away the higher I rev the bike underload above 2500 rpm,but just cruising at 60mph I can hear it, but slightly and if I accelerate just easy it gets louder, but if I roll on a little harder it gets quiet..sounds like coming from front left of case or primary..or maybe front cylinder...put my ear right to cyl. at idle can`t hear it..at idle can`t hear at all..if I rev at idle can`t hear at all..if cold, takes until engine is warm...but only when under way..I tried at speed when it was making tap. then pulled clutch in..gone..let out..it`s back...if it was a lifter..wouldn`t it be tapping all the time?..just changed oil...stock 06, 88inch..seac,v/h slip ons, stage 1 download..driving me crazy..other wise, runs fine..maybe a little sluggigh below 2200 rpm..in traffic...any ideas / suggestions?
Hi, my 2006 street glide is doing exactley the same thing, I just got it out of the shop $660.00 later. They replaced a heatshield on the rear headpipe.and ground a notch out of my inter primary cover to try to fix it. They said it was fixed but it is still doing the exact same thing. Sounds like a lifter maby. only does it when the bike is hot and you are rolling on the throttle. very irritating sound. If I find a fix Ile let you know. If you find a fix please let me know. Thanks 06 street glide 7,300 miles
Mine is doing the same thing. Just had a Harley re-manufactured engine put in and dealer says its nothing to worry about. Stock 80 ci evo engine and its driving me crazy trying to figure out where the knocking noise is coming from. I checked the comp. nut, tight, checked motor mounts, checked all exhaust bolts, heat shields, everything I could think of and the knocking persists. Any ideas?
I have a tapping noise on my 2011 103 Ltd Ultra, and it's at 55 to 65 mph, and sounds exactly like a wire or cable in the front, that's flimsy enough to wave around in the wind & tap on the fairing. None of the cables could do that, and I can't figure out what it is.
