I called three dealers and they all said to ride it. I told them I was getting 158 miles to the tank and I was off and on the throttle like the manual says to. They said not to worry and bring it in at the 1000 mile mark.
I believe you... I got 71 miles out of my first tank. I put 5.2 gallons in for the second go. I got 93 miles out of the next. I am getting much better now. I will also say I was coming off of BMW's and prolly reved too high between gear changes and might of been running a little harder than some might for "break-in". I have always "broken in hard" and never had an engine problem. I know, that is another thread....LOL.

PUHLEASE !!!!!!! You bought a $20,000 motorcycle, got 71 miles from a tank of fuel and you didn't run right back to the shop? 93 miles on the second? Even with a five gallon tank you're talking what, 14-18 mpg? If that didn't arouse your suspicion you might want to look at a new mode of transportation, you might not be ready for this. Of course, if you are towing your Harley truck everywhere you go, well, maybe, just maybe ..........
You CANNOT get an accurate gauge of mileage without FILLING the tank. Then go ride a good 100 miles or so. It doesn't matter what you put in to begin with as long as it was full. After the 100 miles, go FILL it again. To the same FULL point (looking at the filler opening, NOT the gauge) whatever it took to bring it back up to full is the gas used. Divide that into the miles travelled.
Trying to go from a not full tank and reading the gauge to try and see how much gas you used is totally unreliable.
I would recommend carrying a container of gas with you(1/2 gallon or so) in one of your bags, and fill up. I think the street glide has a 6 gallon tank? Set your trip meter and ride until your completely empty, then check your mileage. Use the extra gas you have to get to a gas station and fill up. That way you know for sure!

Arouse my suspicion of what? Yes that is right 14-18 mpg... I think I know how to calculate fuel economy. Why would I not be ready for this mode of transportation. I have only been riding Harleys for about 20 years. My buddy picked up his 2009 Ultra at the same time and his initial fuel economy was about the same, maybe a little better but he does not run the **** out of his as bad as I do...
Edit: now I remember you Frog you are the guy that was afraid to ride through Chicago.... It really aint that bad you just gotta go FAST...

Ummmm, arouse your suspicion something might be wrong with this picture? Seriously, 71 miles on a 6 gallon tank???? That's 12 MPG. Not like they care but the boys running 100+ HP are hitting the 30's and they run them like they stole them. My stroked shovel gets mid-30's no matter how hard I hammer it. Just sayin', your fuel mileage may increase a bit after break in, but you should expect high 30s and I find it hard to believe it will increase by 300%, maybe 5-10%, surely not 300%. Would be an interesting poll to ask maybe how many people got less than 20MPG on their first tank. My own experience, first tank in my RK, about 39MPG. After break in, not running hard, about 42, run it hard, down to 36-37. Add Stage 1, never below 36, might hit 42 if I babied it, I just don't.
