I cut 1.5" off the SE windshield. So it's top is now below the stereo.
Wind blast hits me just below the shoulders.
I'm riding in clean clear air and I like it.
I have a CV medium on order for long trips with the wife though.
I had the 8 inch Klock Werks on when I bought the bike(see sig) and the wind around my ears was awfull, no real buffeting though, could not hear the radio when over 60 mph. So I have changed to the 12 inch Klock Werks, and it is much better, still not buffeting, can hear the radio, but still get wind in the face. I am 5-9. so should be similar.
Dombow,
Which shield is in your pic there, that's not the 12 is it ? Never mind I see you mentioned 8" in sig but do you have a pic of the 12"
I agree with a lot of what's been said. The short shield looks good and is fine around town, but if you're taking a trip, you'll want something taller. Truth is, we can't give you a final answer because buffeting depends on your height, the seat you've installed, the headwind you're riding into, and yeah, the height of the windshield. Get a good-fitting helmit with a tight face shield (like a Fulmer) and it'll solve a lot of your buffeting problems. I rode with an open face for some time, but I kept losing sunglasses when I turned my head, and the buffeting was troublesome. The helmit face shield solved the problem better than all the windshields I bought (and I bought about 4).
i tried the stocker, a 5"er and ended up with an 11" memphis shades. I really like this shield. i want to try the 8" Klock Werks, but im afraid its just a waste of money as i have never read anything good about them other than they look badass.
I have the 12" Klock Werks on mine and I don't receive any buffeting. I'm short though (5'9")
Yeah, I'm 5'9" tall and I tried the 12" Klockwerks WS...it was one bas a#$ looking windshield. But, it felt like it was going to rip my head off. The windshield had the uncanny ability to divert all wind to the forehead and ears. It really dimished the effectiveness of the radio. It made my Oakley's bounce around my face; I had to wear my WileyX's with the strap to keep my glasses still.
It was worse than running w/no windshield on my Fat Boy...
