Well I did it. I bought the bracket that relocates the lower mount of the rear shock...I lowered it the 2" (max) first and bottomed out on a few swoopy type of bumps while i was solo. Pumped the air shocks to max pressure (10 lbs per sticker in the saddlebag) and still hit !
Ok, go to the 1" drop, not as much as I was hoping for but still something I guess (but for $50 I wanted it all) Well 2-up I will hit on major type bumps (swoopy bridge abuttments and the like) but not enough to really stress over.
The bike is basically stock. I bought it used but it seems that the factory air shocks have not been modified or anything.
How is it that others can go 2-3 inches of drop and get away with it and I cannot?
The tire is brand new and was done by Harley so I am sure it is the exact size intended for the bike.
I notice no noticeable change in ride quality with either setting other than the bottoming out.
You can go up to 40 psi . Word of advice ...? Put on progresive shocks on ! I put on the 1 inch lowering kit on my 08 Ultra , after a few long trips I bottom out over bridges etc ......... 1.5 labour bill to fix my electrical problems ! bought the shocks and have not had any trouble since !
+1 on fixing the electrical problems.Just got done fixing mine for that exact reason. It looks cool until you have to pull the rear tire off and run new wiring.LOL
the problem is when u lower with brackets the stock shocks are not stiff enough.when u get shorter shocks they are valved and sprung stiffer so u dont botttom as much.and u will rub the wires to your taillight when u bottom.
Thanks all for the info. I will investigate the higher air pressure....really don't wanna fokk up the wiring and go thru all that for something like 1" of "incorrect" drop.
I lowered my 06 ultra 2 1/2" in the rear and 2" front....air shocks to 26lbs....I'm 215 lbs...the wife 120 lbs...have only bottomed out twice in 2 years, 26k miles...very large pot holes....DO check the bolt/screw holding your tail light to your fender....mine extended way to far and rubbed my tire in the beginning....cut er down to size....no issues since.
