well i am in the process of changing the shock oil and got 20 oz !! out of the first shock. !!! overfilled i am assuming? it is 12.5" long bolt to bolt. everything i read says 10 oz.
thoughts? it is an 01 E-Glide.
ok, i don't know what i was measuring but i only got 350ml (about 12 oz.) not the 20oz ihought at first. But i only put in about 325 ml on the refill...what could be the repurcussions from this oversight? is it worth injecting 25ml into the shock to bring it back to the "stock" level"?
wow capt caveman. lol I just pm'd ya asking ya about this...didnt expect you to be back online!
thanks..thats what i was thinking...will wait and see. it rode fine in to werk today.
still bottomed out on the test ride last nite but was only optimistic that the thicker oil would help with the bottoming out. I moved the mc to the 1" drop position which has never had a problem..it was at the 2" drop setting it bottomed out.
thanks

I put in 10WT oil and it IS the tire hitting the fender...thats what i was werking to resolve.
I had the air pressure up to 40 lbs prior to oil change last nite and when riding 2-up tire hit the fender on bigger bumps.
Was hoping the thicker oil might slow its movement enough to resolve that issue.
I like the look of the 2" drop but have gotten many different opinions on the lowering brackets. From "ok" to "junk".
I know if i throw 200-400 bucks I can get lowered shocks but i got 50 out on the brackets already so want to run out all my options before trashing them and the 50 bucks i paid.
I guess i can go with more air in the heavy oiled shocks and try that....maybe it'd work.
Sorry, I forgot what your original post said. I'd try increasing the PSI in the shocks but it may simply be that there is not enough travel space with a 2" drop.
i was using the 5 to 10 psi in my sg and i weigh 220 with jacket helmet boots etc. this is a stock streetglide. i found out in the forum that guys my weight were running 15-20 or more psi. i settled on 20 and it works out great. the streetglide shocks need higher pressure because they're shorter. so it now sits at 20 psi with a vastly improved ride too, and no bottoming. lowering looks cool, but if it sacrifices ride, then it's not for this rider.
