Unless someone's rackin' off goin' through the gears at high RPMs do you really hear bikes coming towards you or from behind? I don't. In the cage with the windows rolled up, A/C blowing and tunes playing I don't hear a bike, regardless of how loud, until they pass me goin' one way or the other. Personally, I think "Loud Pipes Save Lives" isn't a valid argument. Awareness is what saves life's, whether you're on a bike or in a cage.
YES.............I do think think loud pipes save lifes, since 1972 they have helped me many times along with paying attention. 99% of bikers I know and ride with including bike cops will tell ya the same thing.... I am not saying to roar down your neighbors street at 2 am with straight pipes but Loud Pipes will get a cagers and other bikes attention .
I just got a set of Rush mufflers from Fuel Moto with the 2" baffles and they are much quieter than the Rineharts but still sound deep and not raspy. You can go down to
a 1.5" baffle if you wish or up to a 2.5. Cost was $359.00 and Jamie supplied me with
a map for my PCIII.
They bolted right on and fit perfect and I noticed a improvement in low end performance
but the Rineharts had better high end perf.

I currently ride an '07 FLHTCU with the 103"/255 cams-tru duals w/quiet baffles. A friend of mine has an '08 with the same setup and has tried wrapping the baffles; and after that didn't work (stuff eventually burned out and it sounded different every time I saw him), he welded a washer on one end. I really liked the way it sounded with the washer setup but, when he got it dynoed, he said he lost 23HP.
I had stock pipes when I did the 103" upgrade and the sound and power was fine for me. I went to the duals because that stock cross over pipe was cooking the biscuits. I thought I could adjust to the sound, but it's just not happening. My dyno numbers right now with the quiet baffles are 80HP & 103TQ and I wouldn't mind sacrificing a few numbers either way.
I'm sure we're a minority, but I know there's got to be a few "sound sensitive" guys out there that have found the right solution. Any suggestions (except stuff like "buy a bmw") would be greatly appreciated.
Stock mufflers with a few holes....good sound, quiet when need be or Loud going up big hills, and I can hear the Mrs. at highway speed.......
Very Happy ...louder than stock, but quiet compared to the big dogs
I put a set of Rinehart TD on my 06 Classic, Way to loud. Sounded nothing like my 04 Road King did with the same set up. Sold the TD set up and got slip on Monster Ovals from V&H. What a difference, great sound and good gas millage.
I have a set of RH True Duals (standard baffles) on my '07 FLHT, I find them too loud after being in the saddle for a few hours. Can anybody tell me how much quieter they are with the quiet baffles & if there is any difference in performance.
