Default Back Rest

I just put a back rest on my Road Glide and I think it's there for good. I have a Reach seat and it seems like the rest goes down in there to far. I had to wire the arms together so it would go in and then remove the wire so it would open up. Any of you guys got any tricks for putting the rest in? I mean the seat is so thick that I can't get my hand in there. Help Rick[sm=dontgetit.gif][sm=dontgetit.gif]

I had the same issue with my backrest on my 06 ultra.I looked at the bracket on the bike and found that the slot was welded a tad off-center.Took a dremeral and cleaned up the area that was too close to that side. Also had weld splatter on the pins on the legs of the backrest which had to be ground off.Goes in real slick now. Also bent the legs a tad so it didn't sit me straight up too.Hope this helps........JerryB.

RickM, I had the same experience as you. Hope I don't ever have to remove the seat.....

Same deal. I squeeze them together, try to hook the one closest to me, then rock the other side in.

I think you need hands like a vice to do it any other way.

Work on your wiggle and squeeze technique, a little trickier on the bulky seats.

I tilt the backrest to install the side with the moveable leg first. Then I can pull on the backrest to compress the spring and rotate the fixed leg down into the slot.

Glad I'm sober when I try to write the description of the process.

Bountyhunter I'll work on my wiggle just don't tell anybody! No, after seeing your seat and rest I thought you might have an answer. Mine is just as close as yours. Thanks[sm=massbounce.gif][sm=thanx.gif]

mine was really difficult at first but after a few weeks the spring softens up a bit now she slides right in. could be technique though squeeze and walk it down.

I open some large channel lock pliers real wide, grab both rods and squeeze them together and put it in where I want it. No strain, no pain. Works real good. Mine also has a allen screw on the back to adjust the forward and backward position. Had the wife adjust it while I sat on the bike. Best way to get it dialed in perfectly. Later
