I had a terrible heat issue with my 2008 ultra, it was my first HD, i got caught in 5 miles of bumper to bumper traffic in south lake tahoe last labor day outside temps were right at 100 degrees..............i thot my bike was cooked the oil pressure went to 0 no light but i was worried i kept revving at stops to bring up oil pressure all while not knowing i was leaning out the motor in doing so...............since i have added an oil cooler, dah temp gauge, PCV (jamie & kieth are great!), rush mufflers 1.75 baffles.......put the right oil back into my 6 speed & primary (clucth is 100% better), and the oil is half $ that the synethic oil is, still running syn 20 -50 in the engine............rode home yesterday in 105 temp and the bike run at 220 degrees, and runs so much stronger then one year ago....................it all worked for me and i wouldnt take any other bike now

I think throttling forward to turn it on at stop lights is a little bit late. It takes a certain amount of time to kick in so if you don't do it until then, you've lost some of that time. Turning it on and forgetting about will allow it to do it's job in a timely manner. And since you apparently only have to turn it on once for it to monitor your riding, seems to me it's the more efficient way to go.

OTOH - I'm not certain a normal stop light length would have it go into operation. I suspect that you would have to be at a major wait period such as in a construction zone or one of those lights that contains turn only lights and a rather long light length.

Captain Itch is correct in that the size appears to be much smaller than his. If you go to post 20 of this thread, you'll see a picture of mine. Can't tell you where the air is being deflected to though.

On the '09s, once you enable EITMS it stays enabled until you disable it. Mine used to kick in all the time. It is still enabled but since I installed the Fuel Moto PCV, Stage 1 A/C, an HD oil cooler and Mobil 1, it never kicks in, not even in stop and go traffic.

By the way, I'm running the stock cans. They've gotten louder as the miles rack up and I'm very happy with the sound. They've got a nice bark when I get on it but are quiet enough that I can talk with my wife on the intercom.

I have been playing with exhaust heat temps at the head pipes and this is what I have seen.

Amb. temp around 96
rear head pipe at sensor 400 with EITMS disabled
rear head pipe at sensor 180 with eitms enabled
Front pipe never seems to get over about 375-400
This is on an 09 with rush slip-ons 2" baffles
EDIT TO Add: Once you turn on the EITMS the rear cylinder starts to drop temps within a few seconds.
Some people say that once you turn it on that it will remain on until you turn it off but mine must be turned on each time you crank the bike. On some days that were 100+ I have seen the rear exhaust pipe get up to 550-600 with out the EITMS on.

I am taking these measurement to see how when I add royal purple and then PCV how they change. I am also installing a fairing mount oil temp gauge and seeing if there is any differents between syn3 and royal purple

is there a cheaper way to reduce heat on a 08 ultra? Love to get a stage one, oil cooler, fan etc? any way to lean it out without a power commander or like?

If you don't already, get in the habit of wearing leather chaps.....they block the heat really well.
