Arrow 2009 Ultra heat problem

I have a 2009 Ultra. The problem I seem to be having is that at low speeds or stop & go (about town) traveling, my right thigh is getting way too hot.

I saw a post somewhere that was at least a year or so old about tweaking the bike to run richer being one answer to the problem though it wasn't an ultra they were talking about. Is this an option? Or is there a better solution?

Thanx for any help!

It is a great solution and your bike will run much better.
I suggest the Fuelmoto package. Price and performance.

I went with a high flow air cleaner, Rush pipes and a stage 1 download. Runs much cooler and stronger. Stock was hot as hell and lacked power.

texasxenite, if your bike is new, then there is going to be much more heat than it will when it hits 4 to 5 thousand miles when all the parts in the engine wear in to each other. i was surprised with how much cooler mine got to running after getting it worn in. the fuel mileage increased, and it seemed to run noticeably stronger too. the e.p.a. has things choked down a lot, running leaner each year to meet their standards. fuelmoto has the power commander V, or commonly referred to as the pcv. they help a bunch.

I put the SERT tuner with SE air cleaner and SE Touring slipons on my '09 Ultra and it made a big difference both in how the scoot performs as well as reducing the heat.

putting more fuel to it will help cool it down some, synthetic oil will also help, but if your right thigh is getting hot you may need one of our crotch coolers. It has a large foot print to help keep the heat off of your thighs as you have mentioned.Low speed or stop and go traffic can be pretty rough on you,our crotch coolers will definitely help.Check out our website we are offering a $10.00 rebate with each order until the 4 th of July..My wife must be crazy..have a great weekend

Its likely that its running lean. Get a SEST or something simular and fatten up the AFR. I think its suppsed to 14:1 aroungd idle and then 13:2. Dyno tune with fuel management is the best way to go.

Default Thanx!

Thank you to everyone who replied.

The bike is new. I'm embarrassed and ashamed to say that it has just less than 2,500 miles on it after 3 months. It got so hot so suddenly here in Texas this year that I simply didn't get out like I should have. Would ride it to work, but the temps have been close to 100 (and occassionally over that) by the time I get off work and I just don't feel like riding in that heat.

Since it is new and emwolb says his/hers cooled down considerably, I think I'll just grab a crotch cooler and tough it out until it reaches 5K. If it hasn't cooled by then, I'll check out fuelmoto or a stage 1 and bigger air filter. I don't really want to change the pipes though I must admit I miss the set-off-car-alarm pipes of my last one and the get-a-car's-attention rumble of my husband's pipes.

Last year was my first summer on my 08 Ultra. Running in 100+ degree Temps here it got hotter than hell while riding on the road or in traffic. This summer, temps and riding conditions the same it is running way cooler. Bike is bone stock. I added the HD premium oil cooler which really dropped the engine temps. I know there will be forum members who will not agree with this, but all I can say is this works for me. My 2 cents
