Default Illuminated Fairing Trim

I spotted a new product in the shop today for the fairing. It is a chrome trim piece that goes onto the front of the fairing and has lights on it. Of course HD wants a couple hundred for it but I was wondering if anyone has tried it and if it requires drilling through the fairing for wiring of the lights because they are supposed to double as running lights and turn indicators.

Yes, you have to drill one hole in the top center of the fairing for the wires. It comes with a harness. It is plug and play, it looks good, I'm glad I bought one.

Any concerns about leaks or water in the fairing? Any pics?

I put a dab of silicone on the backside of the hole just for a little insurance. The light bar comes with a rubber gasket that sits between it and the fairing. I will try to get a picture.

I see there are 3 screws in the trim. Are those mounting directly to the fairing as well or is there a mounting bracket that comes with it. As you can tell I am a bit concerned about putting holes in the fairing because I have my HogTunes amp under there as well as my power antenna.

I much prefer the illuminated windshield trim piece. Really finishes off what otherwise looks like an unfinished joint between the top of the fairing and the windshield. The fairing swoopy piece doesn't blend well with the lines of a two-tone fairing.

Just a note on the chrome trim thing...HD hand paints there pin stripes on, so those that may be considering them you may be able to put them on straight but the pin stripe may make them look crooked...sad but true...a friend of mine just put them on his 09

I'm sorry NavyPT, I misread your original question. I was referring to the windshield trim piece. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

No problem Shadowchaser, that's why I love this forum because you can count on someone having experience before trying out your self.
