Unhappy Dipstick stuck, any one else have this prob?

The chrome cap keeps coming off the dipstick on my 06 SG making it extremly difficult to remove it, almost impossible. Anyone have this problem or have a suggestion to fix this. I know it is a stupid problem, maybe it is just me. Thank you

in 06 did they use the rubber grommet type? i think they did till 07 when the screw in type was used. there may be a cure for it if the chrome cap keeps slipping off. you might check around to see if you can find somesort of adhesive for the chrome cap to be glued to the rubber stopper. perhaps even a silicone black adhesive??? it would need to be somewhat heat proof also. i used g.e.max 5000 silicone to install my windows in the home i built and that stuff goes on like water based stuff, but turns to an incredibly tuff rubbery, grip like hell stuff. u use the black g.e. 5000 on automotive applications when i really want something to stick without problems. it's cheap, and great stuff, and would surely cure your slipping off issue. you'd want to let it cure a couple of days though. very tuff stuff, and it comes in a caulking tube too. i'd try that before springing eight bux for a small tube of something that won't work. jb weld, and crazy glue have thieir place, but not in my shop.

You're not supposed to remove that yourself or it will void your warranty. You're suppsoed to have this done at the dealer. I think it's $245 to top off your oil the last I checked.

Well all I did was clean the top of the rubber and the bottom of the cap then JB weld to hold in place. This has worked for the last three bike I have had.

next time you're at the harley shop, ask at the service counter. they've encountered this issue surely and have figured out a cure for it. there also may be a service bulletin concerning it. have you tried oiling the outer rings of the stopper rather than inserting it dry? it may be something that simple. you'll get it figured out. good luck and ride safe.
