I totally disagree that the GL1800 is a better touring bike. I traded in a Wing for my Road Glide and I find the RG to be more comfortable (for the rider, anyway) and a lot more fun to ride than the Wing. Faster, yes. Better touring bike, no. IMHO, of course.

Most everyone will be partial to what they have. For me it;s a Road Glide for you it might be an Ultra Classic. Start by getting on some bikes at the dealers and go from there.

Took a 09 EGS for an hour rip from the dealership a week ago. No offence, but I hope the rest of the batwings aren't like that.

Dressed up RG or wait for the the RG based 2010 Tour Glide. ( Dressed up RG with a different name)

I road and loved the RG. Nimble handling with the frame mounted fairing. Added the quick release King tour pak with LED spoiler for a little extra visability from behind at night. The heritage bars raise and pull back the bars about an inch each way. Added some Kuryakyn Cruise boards for the highways and going to pick up some Hogg Chopps this fall.

I've got a 2000 RG & am getting ready to trade-up...best thing to do in my opinion would be to wait for 010 in a couple of weeks & see if there is anything interesting...hopefully HD is keeping all their QC people! Brad

I have ridden several of the touring bikes and fail to understand the difference other than maybe some difference in stock seat. Alot of people change the seat anyway. The only difference I can see is in how they are equiped. If we are talking strictly about which has the most options then obviously the Ultra is the best. The RG and the SG are almost identical other than the fairing, for the rider anyway. The RG fairing may block a little more wind. Some say the lower suspension on the SG makes the ride less comfortable but I can't tell any difference. Of course I am only 235lbs. so a heavier person may experince bottoming out but I have not. Of course being lower it is easier to reach the ground at stops which could be a consideration. I have found this to be noticable difference even at 6'1". How could a RK be a "true" touring bike and the SG not be? The best thing is for you to ride each one you find to your liking looks wise and select from what seems to be most comfortable. If you simply go with comfort but cringe every time you walk up to it because you don't like the looks then you may wind up unhappy. Then from there consider equipment it comes with. If a bike you like does not come equiped with some of the items you want those can be added later. Some tend to think whatever they have is the best. I bought what was best for me. You should buy what is best for you. If I had it to do over I think the only option other than SG I would seriously consider would be an Electra Glide Classic. Ultra's are nice but the additonal items are not really worth the difference in price to me. RG are nice but the look is not for me. EG standard is ok if you are budget minded and don't mind the polished engine covers instead of chrome and the lack of radio. Radio can be added later. Rk's look nice but no fairing or radio excludes it for me.
