Lots of good info. But. No explanation yet. Hot or cold. Before and after install of PCV. If starts right up as soon as switch is turned on. BANG. Fires right up. If wait for lights to go out. Engine turns over 4 or 5 revolutions before starting. So, I go with starting as soon as I turn switch on. Saves battery and has not hurt anything else. Sorry if I am

OK. Here is my half baked theory. No scientific data available. If the thing is started as soon as switch is turned on the ECM, computer or what ever runs the system essentally thinks the motor is still running. So as soon as piston hits TDC it fires. Wait for the lights to go out. The computer resets every thing and its starts from the reboot so to speak. Does that make any sense? This is my brain on drugs.
I'll go curl up in the corner now.

Why the hurry. I get on the bike, ignition on, sidestand up, check over my shoulder, start her up and away. By the time the stand is up and I've done the lifesaver the lights are out anyway.

I am I the only one who's been starting their bikes for years and never paid attention to how long the interval is between hitting the run button and the start button? All this time I've been unaware that I'm missing out on yet another thing to wring my hands over
