I have to change my front tire as I picked up a nail yesterday and would like to get some opinions on which tire to use on my Road king police. I dont think I want it replaced with the run flat as they are not rated for two up and even some motor officers have told me the traction is not very good. Some people have dunlops others metzelers. Any advice appreciated!
At 7000 miles my stock Dunlaps still looked great and I was happy with them.
However since I was changing the front wheel to an 18 inch I needed a new tire. I also elected to go ahead and replace the rear tire at the same time since the largest percentage of it's life was probably used up. That way both tires were new and they matched each other in looks.
My local INDY loves Metzeler and talked me into them. He said they are a softer compound and would not wear as well as the Dunlap but that he assured me I would like them.
With the changes we did from tires, the larger front wheel, to adding a bagger brace to wider/taller handle bars I am not sure what part the Metzeler's play but I think the bike handles 10 times better than stock and I feel very confident on it. We rode back 250 miles in a heavy rain from DC this year and the tires were excellent.
I read where some folks said that Metzeler's lose air but in the four months I have run them they have not lost a pound.
