I just picked up a new Ultra. I really love the bike. However, I am looking for ideas to reduce heat - both for driver and passenger. My wife is very long legged so to make her as happy as possible I want to try to reduce the heat.
Depends on how much you want to spend and how far you want to go. A Stage 1 with pipes, A/C and tuner or you can start getting into more expensive tuners and dyno tunes. You can use IED's. A couple of options based on how much you want to spend.
Yeah my '09 runs much hotter than my '05 did. They are set very lean to meat EPA standards, the answer is to enrich the mixture. Of course the mileage will be less but worth it in my mind. I haven't done anything to mine yet, but am thinking a Power Commander or Fuel Moto, something like that to enrichen it some. I actually like the stock pipes, I have gotten used to the quiet, it is kind of nice.
I am going to try the combination of the oil cooler, syn oils, and if that dosen't work I will go for the true duals, A/C, and tuner. It worked on my 07 RKC.
Simple!!!
Take the lower fairings off during the Summer riding season! I do that to every Ultra I've ever owned during the summer months. It takes about 30 Minutes to remove them or reinstall them and cools things down a bunch.
I did what ranman does also , remove the lower fairing vent doors.
Takes about 10 minutes a side to pull the lower and disassemble and reassemble.
Makes a fairly big difference in heat especially on the right side.
As you put some miles on the new bike , it will also get somewhat better heat wise too.
I've got around 4000 miles on mine and it's better than when it was new.
These engines must be pretty tight when they're assembled from the factory.

Got to a 2 into 1 header (thunderheader or d&d are good)) with down load will run cooler and the 2-1 header eliminates the right side heat issue. It will also provide maximum performance
