I have a 05 RK that came w/ straight mufflers on it, way to noisy (bike has a sidecar) . The bike has the stage 1 kit , so I removed the mufflers and replaced them with a new set from a 09 RK.
Well the bike is nice and quiet now but if traffic my left leg gets cooked. I have see the Mid-Frame Air Deflectors around for awhile from HD as well as aftermarket. Question is do they really work and if so do they actually harm the motor from the trapped heat that is not escaping up my leg?
Today in traffic with the temp w/ around 75 and in the stop and go traffic the oil was running around 240 degrees. Prior to installing the OEM mufflers the bike never got that hot even in 85+ temps. I do not think that the oil got over 220.
I really do not want to go back to louder mufflers, the new screamin eagle mufflers I was told were a waste of money as they were as quiet as the stock mufflers.

Check with Capn Itch for leather, RJs for rigid ones. I had the RJs and they worked great. I like the leather version of Capn Itch, particularly the basketweave pattern. His leather work is great.
I never measured my oil temps, others can tell you specifics like that. I noticed that the 09s have midframe heat deflectors stock.
Thanks for the info, I probably would go with the HD or Kury ones as they are cheaper.

They're plastic if that matters. The HD ones look cheap the Kury ones are clear plastic or smoked. I hear they break. Just what I hear. The HD ones don't seem to cover much just looking at them on 09s.
I recommend the Kury's. Expensive, yes kinda. 80 bucks delivered but they do work. My E-Glide would get my legs pretty warm but they cut that A LOT.I hafta say buy'em.
& the clear smkoed look good too.
The harley ones...don't like there looks...
Heat Shields...Crotch Coolers...call it what you will. It works.
If you ride a v-twin then you know what a problem heat can be whether you are riding or sitting in traffic. I have come up with a product that will really help you out and have tested it in the Florida heat and am very happy to tell you that it works very well, installs very easy and is priced half of what some of the other products are.
In order to install the crotch cooler you remove your seat, put the seat tang through the crotch cooler and tighten your seat back down. Pretty simple..
Starting at $70 If you are not 100% satisfied just send it back..A happy customer is our best advertising.
Thank You
Larry
something else going on here if you didn't have a heat problem and all you did was change mufflers and now you have a heat problem........where are the top wrenches out there???
