Default Engine Cleaning Tip - Simple Green

As my RG ages, oil and road grit are darkening the blond motor color and general soap and water doesn't seem to get it all cleaned off.
Today, I was rumaging through the cleaning solvents in the house and came across a bottle of Simple Green. I took it outside along with a tooth brush and a spray bottle of water to rinse. The grease that the soap and water couldn't touch just rinsed away after a swirt of Simple Green and a couple of scrubs with the brush. The stuff is a lot cheaper than the engine degreaser and rinses off with water. Motor looks like new now.

Simple Green is known to be corrosive to alluminium. Be gentle and rinse well

Simple Green is a good product but I would not use it on my engine, or any part of my bike.

I don't use simple green, I just use dish washing soap mixed in a spray bottle.

My motor is black and chrome though...so when the black parts need touched up I spray it with s100

Simple Green is Biodegradable and can be diluted to the level you want. I use it on my truck and the wheels and engine on the Bike. Works great and has not damaged anything.

I have been using Simple Green on my Softail engine since shortly after I purchased the bike in 2001 and it has the silver-chrome motor and the engine still looks like new after 8 years and fifty thousand miles on the bike, as long as you rinse it off well, I have never had any issues with it. Again just my two cents worth.

Been using simple green on my engine ever since I bought the bike new and, the engine still looks new. I also use it on the engine bays of my autos to keep them looking new.

Been using Simple Green on my bikes engines, wheels and undercarriage since 1998 and have never had an issue. I also spray it on the rims, tires and wheel wells of my vehicles before washing. Makes cleaning the tires and rims so much easier. Never had an issue with using it.

Dawn dishsoap (not any other brand) is safer (on the aluminum), easier and quicker and will definatly cut grease. It will also clean the grease on a driveway.
