I think we all are happy with either our 08 or 09's or previous for that matter, too bad for the MOCO as we won't be trading up to a 2010. As for the 5th gear whine, on my 08 I hear it every once in a while and it reminds me that I have a Harley.
As for the 2010's I think the Ultra Limited should be what a stock Ultra should be sold as, period.
An Ultra should have a 103, tourpak rack on the lid, oil cooler, reverse..... and the CVO gets you a 110 and all the chrome you could want.
I don't hear the whine really when its in fifth. Mostly just when I down shift to 1st. I agree the 10s are all we were hoping for. The only good thing so far is some of the color choices (not too different with the RK) and some of the new parts. I am thinking I will either get the new agitator wheels or the chrome and black 28 spokes from the Ultra limited....
I am willing to bet over the next few months, HD sells way more 09s than 10s.......
There is also some noise from those pipes ;-) Got to buy beemer!
Typical answer.
It may not be every bike, so you might want to chill down a little.
I had a chance to ride a 09 EGS a few weeks ago. Dealer demo bike. It was really loud. Not only in 5th, but also some in 4th. I couldn't get over it? Kind of reminded me of a blower drive or short track NASCAR tranny sound. (that's how I'd describe it)
I don't have it on my 08 RG (built Feb.4 to Feb.16th/08), and even though my 09 SB is a different family transmission, it's not there either.
I've heard others talk about it before, and I hadn't had it, so I didn't really know what they were talking about .......until now.
Leohd, i have absolutely no whine at all in my 08 sg. none at all. i used royal purple 75-140 at the first oil change, and didn't even notice anything before that actually. and Toad6301, i'm actually really glad that i kept my 08, although the 09 roadglide in vivid black is still very sweet lookin. i'll keep what i got, it's paid for, it runs great, and it doesn't **** me off.
Some transmissions must be much louder than others.
Last September I test rode a 2009 FLHT and a 2009 FLHX. They both had fairly loud 5th gears. I purchased a 2009 FLHX back in March and I can barely hear fifth gear on it.
I do not hear the whine in my 5th. gear even when new, did not really notice it. I use Red Line Synthetic ShockProof™ Gear Oil in the trany. Makes a difference how much noise comes from the trany. 5000 miles on it now.
