better 5th gear ? NOT, its weaker straight cut gears are louder but stronger now they went to a helical cut its guiet but week. good job to all the 5th gear whiners the moco listened and weakend it up for ya.
For a guy who bought three new Harley's in three years, I am as happy as I can be with my '09.
I see no need to buy a 2010 model. Unless of course I break a leg or something.
Then I will have to have the Street Glide Trike. LOL
I don't mind my 5th gear whine, I wish it wasn't there but it's no big deal. It's just a different noise and all. Mine's not any louder, just different. Harleys makes lots of different noises. At lease this way I can tell I'm in 5th gear. LOL
Maybe I got lucky but on my 09 I don't even notice the 5th gear whine I keep hearing about. Right from day one, there was never a distinguishable difference and my hearing is fine. I've heard a few others say similar, so maybe not all 09s do it.
Rodeo - you got lucky all the way around. That is one sweet ride you got there.
As to the 10's, to each his own I guess. The wife likes the SG Trike and the I'm kinda linking the one eyed monster look of the exhaust on the SG. Sure glad I like black as a color.

The whine in 1st and 5th never bothered me. I switched over to Amsoil in my tranny and the whine issn't even noticable anymore. Personally I'd rather have spur gears for all 6 speeds and deal with a little extra noise instead of having the weaker healical gears.
Yeah, I have just a noticeable amount of 5th gear noise but I
am about at my 1k sevice and will see if it goes away in the
future. I will crank my 8 speaker system if I need to (like
I need a reason to!!!) Oh yeah and if all goes well I will have it
paid off by next April also. Rock-N-Roll brothers n sisters
Some transmissions must be much louder than others. I talked to a guy the other day that sold his bike and said one of the main reasons was how loud his 5th gear was and refuses to buy another Harley that uses that gear cut. Sure I hear my 5th gear, but its far from annoying, if anything it reminds me what gear I'm in, lol. Maybe my old ears just dont hear it as well as others. I guess that's one good thing about getting old.
+1
I have a hard time seeing what the big deal is, it's not that bad and in fact in some regards I like it cuz I know what gear I'm in when in that rpm zone where you could be either in 4th or 5th.
