Default Security Code???
I have spent the last day and a half trying to figure out why my 2008 Harley Nightster wasn't communicating with my fob. I kept getting the security key light and blinking lights. I'm not a dummy so of course I purchased a new battery for the fob and replaced it. I even put a brand-new battery in the bike for fun. Still, my security system was going off, so I thought maybe the starter or the fuses mentioned in the thread were the issue. Before I get it towed to the dealer here in Las Vegas let me see If I can start it without the fob using the pin number. Hmm, the pin number, I never got it from the 3rd party dealer that is now out of business 12 years later. Let me see if I can guess it, thanks to all the examples here.
Key in the ignition and in the on position, hold both blinkers, and start entering pins. 11111, 22222, 12345, last five of VIN number. None worked so let's run through all the numbers, 33333, 44444, 55555, nope. Then randomly I thought, what would I save it as(I had a lot of time to think since I had 2 minutes between each try before I could try again)? Maybe count down till it starts...54321. BOOM fired right up! I hacked into the main frame/guessed it.
Half my worries are gone and I can drive it to the dealership. I called Harley on Las Vegas Blvd to make sure they can take me and re-calibrate or whatever is needed to my fob. The guy on the phone said it shouldn't need to be recalibrated so let's check one thing before bringing it in. "Open the fob and check the connection to the battery, maybe bend the contact points for a better connection." Everything looked great and a snug fit. "Now is the positive part of the batter pointing up?" Yes, it is. There is your problem, turn it down. Oh wait, after all, I'm a dummy! It says it needs to be down right here under the battery.
I sure did learn a lot being a dummy. At least I now have my PIN number written down with the title for the next time I'm a dummy and lose my fob.
Here is a link to the owner's manual, read the whole thing today. lol
