Question seat modification

I recently bought a 2009 classic and this year is taller than earlier models. I love the bike and dont really want to put a lowering kit on it because I hear that it hurts the handling of it. I would like to modify the seat. I know they sell different seats but the passenger always seems to suffer when you buy an aftermarket seat. I need to know if anyone with a stock seat off of a 2009 FLH has had it modified. I need to get it lowered as much as possible (2-3 inches if possible) and , if so, where or who did you have do it. I dont know if it is possible to get that much out of the seat. I dont really have the money to do shocks and all the other things you can do. I am even going to get a new sole on my boots to gain some height! Thanks for your suggestions.

Mean City Cycles. Owner is BadX here on the forum. He has a section in the vendor section of the forum. Give him a shout.

Hey- i modified mine- after spending 400 for a mustang that they wont take back. a real POS.
all i did was pull back the cover and foam and squeezed the plastic together and then heated it till it became narrow then let it cool- and then took my dremel and cut off the plastic pan where it hit the frame- put the foam and cover back on and stapled it back down. had to do it like 2 times to get it perfect but it narrowed the seat up front enough that it felt 2 inches lower. You might have to cut foam out from the bottom with an electric knife to get it any lower. be carefull with that but that is all the lowered seats are.

Yes, try Mean City Cycles. The owner is in Sturgis for the next 2 weeks, but he could be checking e-mail and what not. He is located in NC as you are, just not sure where you are. You could do a ride in appointment with him to have your seat done too.

The seat is a 15" studded- and same with the passenger 13.5 studded- looks great on the bike- the wife likes the pillion real well.
gives me a lot of standing room when stopped. comfortable and tends to lay ya back a little more than the stock seat. everyone else liked that aspect- I like sitting straight up- had to get a taller windshield even.
the seat cost me- $528+ tax- sell for $ 400.00 firm.

+1 on MNC, mine is going there today. The owner is in Sturgis but 2 of his guys are at the shop in NC still doing the seat mods. They can lower, move forward, move back, AND add a nice cushy ride from what I hear. When I get mine back I'll post a report to you.

I did my own seat. Took me 3 tries to get it right but am very happy. Allen from Mean City was a great help with all my stupid questions. I'll be having a beer with him in 4 days in Sturgis
