Default Detachable fairings

Anyone install a detachable on a Road King to replace the stock Windshield? I have been researching the options and am just not sold on any one in particular but would like the option for tunes and to extend my cooler weather ride time(more hand cover).

Not that I am ageing of course but uncle Arthritis has come home to roost and cold on my hands kicks my ***!! as well as decreases my time in the saddle.DSC01950.jpg

I was in the same boat a bit and wasnt sure about a fairing. i built my own using my existing windshield with a fairing that i have painted black forsale thats looks like a stock fairing. got pics in my album of it finished on my road king. but anyways after riding with it for a few months decided i was happy with it and broke down and took the plunge on a dragonfly fairing which i love and easy to remove.

I am very happy with my DeadCenter fairing. It locks on the bike.

Absolutely love my Dead Center Fairing. They make a quality product, that locks on the bike, and their customer service is next to none. Very nice folks.

There's some good aftermarket fairings out there. I did a little project last yr and put a Dragonfly on a Fatboy with some tunes. I found the fairing on Ebay for a good price so you might keep a lookout there for a good deal. Here's some album pics of the one I had with sound system which did rock!

There are others, but those are the ones I hear most about, mostly positive.

I can't decide either, that's why I added a chrome speaker system to my RKC to buy me some time...

Companies have different strengths, and different options. Speaker size/design, head unit options, some lock, some don't, all w/ varying cost points.

I think if I did it, I'd be tempted to put in my own audio package, but get the fiaring cut to fit ready for head unit and speakers, maybe an arc amp w/ really good speakers, and I'd kind of like one of those flip up display head units, so I'd probably contact that firecap guy on here and see what he says about the audio, the folks around here seem to like him.

Then there's paint, some paint them, some don't. If you have access to a good and affordable painter, that may make a difference in your decision.

I have two tone 03 paint on an RKC, so I haven't decided if I want all silver, or some black, and if so, where to put the black since I don't have any black on the fenders... or I could just put a leather bra on it to go w/ the leather bags...

Then you have to decide on how high a windshield, w/out having seen the fairing on your bike.

I would like to go to a rally where they're all there to compare, but not sure when that's gonna happen for me...

Oh BTW ddm, are those kuryakyn adjustable pegs on your bike, along w/ the bags for the guard rails? The previous owner of my bike put those pegs on, but I want those bags on the guard rails, and I thought they'd interfere. If you have any feedback on that, I'd appreciate it, I was thinking I'd have to take those pegs off...

Karz,

Yes those are Kuryakyn adjustables with the guard bags, they do kindof interfere and the pegs do not go full back to 'lock' but they will fold back enough for the little woman to get them out of her way or away from my legs when I solo. They just lay back on the bag cover.

You mean these? www.woodysfairings.com

I think I remember this guy, he used to post here helping people out w/ fairing questions when he worked for one of the other companies, but later went out on his own. I hadn't seen the site before, but just found it. Looks like an option too...
