Man I feel your pain, I have been monkying around with different sheild heights too trying to get away from the buffeting thats a real pain on any trips longer than a run to the store above 50mph.
I have a 05 Electraglide standard & the stock sheild worked well but takes away from the looks of the bike & I didnt like to have to re focus as I looked into a turn & my eyes past the edge of the sheild, it has a poor optical spot at the edge, I tried the 4" (worthless) a 8" (better for short trips but worthless for longer rides) & I just got me Cee Baileys 12", I was hoping for more, the buffeting is still there for the most part but I'll give it a shot for a while, my wife & I are heading to Yellowstone this summer & the stock sheild will be on................good luck
Orcas...once again...as suspected the motor company designed 12" windshields over the Batwing for a reason...to provide the ultimate in touring comfort. Thats what I need to get used to. Before I could pop the windshield on and off within seconds and solve the problem or open it up to a full face of wind, (still less turbulence without the fairing). I thought the 10" fastAire would do it for me, and it helps but doesn't resolve. I think I'm going to cancel my Cee Bailey 13" order now. Yours isn't a ringing endorsement, and I'm already not crazy at all about the look. I'm starting to see where this is a case where something has to be given up for a look. You don't get a stripped down EG, and get to keep all the benefits of an Electra Glide.
I have a 6" smoked shorty on my EG Classic, and it is fine. It is much better than the full shield on my wife's Heritage. She rode my Classic the other day, and now she is thinking she wants one instead of the Heritage because the wind is less.
Have you tried the chrome fork lowers? They will stop a lot of the wind coming from under the fairing.

Thanks Bill! It's always interesting to hear about those who are happy with something like a 6" windshield, and even more so that your Heritage handles turbulence with a full shield worse than your EG with a 6". That's why I believe it's very much an individual issue. In my original post I mentioned how windy it has been in Dallas over the past week. I ride daily and have for a few years now, and guess I'm waiting for the wind to drop to something other than 20-30mph days to really work through this again. I realize that my recent observations have probably been skewed, (plus I'm really wanting to fix this problem since I'm in love with this Street Glide)
The chrome fork lowers is the only thing, short of a 12' windshield I haven't tried. Again, I guess it's a matter of function over form. I've seen them on Road Kings and thought they looked "ok", but not so sure how they would look on a black Street Glide. Do you have a good front on pic?
I don't have a good front on picture right now, but I will get you one. I personally thing they look okay, and they definately stop a lot of wind and buffeting.
I am 5'10' and ride with a ball cap most of the time.
I like the 6" black Fastaire best and soft foam earplugs!
What he said. I have the 6 inch black Fastaire also. I dont need to see thru the windshield. I figure if I dont see something by the time it gets to where I can see it thru my 6 inch windshield then I am screwed bigtime...
I am 5'11", sit low in a Young Guns Corbin Saddle and wear foam earplugs and a full face HD helmet.
