Default Batteries.

Whats your take on batteries... Do the after market suppiers last as long as Harleys. I'm told not to be cheap and buy HD's... Any pro's and con's out there?

I'm sure there are batteries out there that are as good as the H-D ones, I just don't know which ones they are. I would say 80%+ of the bikes that come in the shop with bad batteries (either melted posts, ruptured ort just plain dead) have some after market that somebody saved 20 bucks on. For me it's just not worth the extra time and hassle. I've run the H-D batteries on my last 3 bikes and have yet to need to replace any of them.

I have had very good performance from HD batteries. Worth the money to me to not have to worry about it.

sorta like tools, you can get them from harbor freight, or from snap on. i prefer the snap ons i've got, and would not put a walmart battery in a twenty thousand dollar motorcycle and expect it to be dependable. you got the best bike made, why cheap out and get something that you can't trust when considering batteries.

Jim,

That's a good point, well made. Applies to a lot of other things for Harleys too!

Deka makes Harley batteries, if you dont want to pay for the HD name...dont think they are much cheaper without the logo though

I bought one from batteries plus...It comes with a two year warranty where the HD ones only come with a 1 year...Granted I paid the same price as an HD battery though.
