I drained the syn 3 out of the crankcase and replaced it m1 syn. I read that the better oil would quite down the engine noise some but i don't hear any differance. I quess I'll have to get used to it. I do have a question, i put 4 qrts in (the harley websit stated that it held 4) and read somwhere that it only holds 3 1/2. Do I need to drain out 1/2 or will it be ok? The RK only has 1700 miles. thanks

Don't worry about it, Chief. Every time I change my 05 Ultra, I have to put in 4 quarts. Just make sure that you check the level, and make sure it's right.
I personally have not run the Mobile1, but a friend of mine does. His bike sound exactly the same as when he had Syn3 in the holes. In mine when I put in AmsOil it made quite a difference! However I bought mine used, and have NO idea what was in there, for all I know it could have been 100% DINO!!
4 qts. with a filter - that's what you do. For me, I've had HD dino, then Syn 3, then Royal Purple, now Mobile 1 V-Twin. Can't honestly say I've noticed a difference in the "sound" between any of them. I now have 10k on the bike. I made my oil choice based on much research in this and other forums. I am sticking with the following:
Engine - Mobil 1 V-Twin (Autozone)
Primary - HD Formula + (HD dealer)
Trans - Redline Shockproof Heavy (Summit Racing.com)
I switched to Mobile 1. No difference in the engine sound. Just returned from a 2200 mile road trip. The oil still looks like it was just changed. Was in heavy traffice in DC and Baltimore. Syn3 would have been black by now. I used Mobile 1 75-90 in the transmission. I honestly can tell no difference in it and Syn 3.
the difference between mobile 1 15W50 and mobil 1 v-twins additives doesn't warrant the nearly double the price. what's 800 ppm compared to 900 ppm (a generalization) when it comes to additives? LOL. i have 57K on my 2001 RK using the car oil since change one.
