Radio
I used a power antenna from Dakota Digital. (About 90.00 shipped). It goes under the fairing and is wired into any switched power source, such as the hot wire to the radio. Dakota Digital says that it will not work the Weather Band, but mine seems to. I think that AutoZone and other Parts Stores have powered Antennas similar to Dakota Digital that are cheaper, but Dakota has a good reputation, and warranty so I went with them.
Forgot to mention in my earlier post that the Weather Band is another reason to go with the HD radio instead of a car model.

Pardon my ignorance, but what does the powered antenna do for me? I'm all over hiding the antenna, so this sounds like a good option...does the powered antenna give me more betterer
reception?Thanks in advance,
Mac
I don't think it gives any better reception, it just lets you have the same reception in a smaller package. With the Dakota Digital, there will be nothing showing. It's a little rectangle about 1' x 1' x 3' long, and has a sticky back that mounts to the underside of the fairing.
Also to consider, is the fact that you will pay just as much for the HD external antenna and mount, and then be stuck with an antenna that is visible.
When you get ready to do the XM, you can also mount that antenna under the fairing. It will shoot through the fiberglass. The antenna on the Roady II has a magnetic base, and I mounted mine right on top of the metal radio housing.

I'm noot sure what I'm going to do, prob. continue to go radioless. The state of IL has shot down my idea. I was going to use my portable disc player or an MP3 and use eear buds under the helmet, but for some unfathomable reason, the state says that you are allowed to have and use earphones if they are built into the helmet and system, but not if they aren't.

Your link was the one that helped. I was struggling with the webpage, couldn't find it anywhere. Thanks again, I'm now waiting on my three shipments! (Speakers, radio, and antenna.)

The Best of Harley-Davidson for Lifelong Riders
That is the part that the guys at SUI Cycles recommended with a Sony player. In the end I decided to go with the HD radio...I'm going with XM, so the MP3 was less of an issue for me. I do think it weak that the HD won't play MP3's though. Time to get with the times!
