I also wentwith theJ&P Cycles headlight ring. I did not care for the screw that came with it and installed a nice round head stainless screw I picked up from Home Depot. Tried to install the HD headlight ring and the POS would not close tight at the bottom.
After trying to install the ring myself i figured I let the dealer do it because the bike was going in for some work anyway. So I tell the service writer my problem and he tells me he will take care of it ..Well imagine my surprise when I p/u the bike and there was a 40.00 charge for installing the ring..And yes it has a 1/4 in gap
I just installed the HD headlight trim ring and the trim rings for the driving lights on mine, headlight took about 5minutes to do,fit nice ,no gap at all on the bottom, the driving lights were another story though, first one i put on it had just a slight gap,put one 1/4 turn moreon the screw and it pulled through the hole with a pop sound, returned them to the dealer for another set,no problem after that, both went on with zero gap at the bottom and fit well.
Mine did the same thing but when I adjusted the head light it went on fine. The factory headlight was not adjusted as it should have been. Hope this will work for you.
