Default Road Glide Windshield Installation Question

Dumb question but here goes it....I did search the forum but couldn't find the answer.

I have a new to me '03 Road Glide. It came with three windshields, when replacing the shield to try different ones out I didn't pay attention to the washer/spacer orientation. Can someone give me the order of rubber base, metal washer, plastic washer, windshield, tightening screw? Some of the order is obvious but the little rubber spacer thing has me confused.

Thanks.

ps..I have ordered a service manual but it hasn't arrived yet.

You removed the rubber spacer!?!

Not the little black ones I hope!

Crap, you need a whole new fairing now. There is no way to put them back!

Oh hell, I don't know what I'm talking about, but the board is slow and I'm bored

I'm sure your answer will come along soon.

You have to put the rubber well nut through the rubber spacer/washer and then into the fairing, then you put the hard plastic washer on the screws and just install the windshield.

What Thunder Cloud said is true .. the only thing I can add is be careful not to tighten the screws too tight into the wellnuts, if you do they will fall into the faring and you won't see them until the faring comes off .. for what ever reason. I speak from experience here .. I have an '03 Road Glide too. The HD service manual says to tighten them to 6-13 in-lbs ( not foot lbs )

Thanks for the help...

I just removed and re-installed the fairing to put the sattelite radio into place. What a complete pain in the ****!!!!!!!!!! The Ultra was light years easier. Unless I was doing something wrong (which is likely) I had a heck of a time getting it to "snap/fall" into place.

There must be some trick or steps that I don't know..

Yes it IS a pain. I install the center screw first then do the right side and then the left, and tightening them all loosely as I proceed. Once on, go back and snug them all. The secret is to be patient........something that usually eludes me on simple stuff like this. I learned early on to have some spare wellnuts on hand when I do the deed.....just in case one goes down the hole into the fairing.
