Default Scary Handling

I have an '07 SG with about 7000 miles on it. Lately going around curves where there are any bumps the handling sucks. It pogo's around and isn't very reassuring. I had it in to the dealer thinking the forks were a little soft and the only thing they did was tighten the engine mounts and steering head with no improvement. Any suggestions as to what the problem may be? The forks do not and have never leaked. Are there different weights of fork oil for different regions?

This is present in all '08 and earlier FLH frames, caused by the design of the rear rubber engine and swingarm mount. What happens is that the swingarm and engine float on these rubber mounts and this is what you feel on the sweepers as these two components move independently of each other. The key is to control the lateral movement between the swingarm and engine, and that can be accomplished by adding one of serveral available stabilizers on the market.

Here is a two-year-old write-up I did on the stabilizer I installed on my '07 SG. Today there are more to choose from than when I bought mine, perhaps the best for the money being the Progressive Touring Link chassis stabilizer for $200.

These devices do improve the situation but don't cure it. I still feel some tail wagging at times, but it is now better controlled. To get rid of it completely you may need to buy an '09 or later model, as the new frame has reportedly gotten rid of this irritating behavior.

there are tons of oils and lubes for forks. What about tire pressure... To much not enough can cause this. If the tire bead isnt seated it can cause what you have explain... Front and back. if the rear tire is out of line it can cause this. There is so much to handling. fork neck not tight could cause it. need to go over the bike with a fine toothed comb...

I had the same problem with my 07 SG. So I put new metzlers tires on it, No help. Put a true-trak on it , No help.

I tried to get the wobble out of it for 2 yrs. I loved that bike but that wobble was so friggin nerve racking I finally got rid of it and bought a 09 Ultra, Wow!!! what a difference.

You state that the problem is "lately".......... That means only one of two things. Either you are more comfortable on the bike now and are pushing it harder than you were before, or somthing has changed.

If you are riding more agressively now because you are more comfortable, then a stabalizer might be the answer.

If you are riding the same as you always have, and the problem is coming on 7,000 miles into it, something has changed with your bike. It could countless things.

I solved the problem mainly by putting the heavier oil in the forks...I ride the twisties as hard as i can and the last time i went to the hills it was much better. Wobble was gone.
