I just put a Reach seat on my 2009 Ultra. I'm 5'8" and wanted to get a little lower to the ground.
When I installed the seat it came with a new strap that replaces the old one which is now mounted in a different location. Instead of using the bracket that attaches the the hard bag bracket, the strap is attached under the seat to bolts on the rear fender.
The strap seems a little loose, there are only two holes for the bolts, one on each end. Does anyone else see this as a problem? Maybe I got the wrong strap. I could punch new holes in the strap and tighten it down but wanted to see if others saw the same thing.
I don't have an answer tot he strap question ( I would be inclined to leave it off myself ), but I was wondering how the seat feels now that you have it on there?
FYI
the REACH seat I bought, didn't even HAVE the strap.... personally, I'm not real sure how much faith I'd put in a strap, anyway.
As far as how the seat feels..... I installed it, last October, and after 18,000 miles it feels fine. I was an iron butt, long before this bike, so 500 mile days are just rides. I don't think the seat will be perfect for ALL.... but it suits me fine
Buddy bought a new 2010 SE SG and put the Reach on and had the same issue with the strap. The Dealer quoted him at $200 to fix (yes, $200 to fix a strap!).
He called me and we put a new hole in the strap and ran the 'excess' through the slot on the bracket. Personally, I would've just done without it, but he wanted it for looks, and to use for strapping down a bag or whatever. Get a leather hole punch at Lowes or Home Depot for $10 and do it yourself.
The way the seat is secured seems real "weak". The tab in the front and a single screw in the back. My other bike (metric) has two bolts on either side in tha back and it seems more secure.
As afar as how it feels, I just put it on last night and rode maybe 15 miles. Seems like it is tilting or pushing me forward. I'll wait until a longer ride to to decide if I keep it or not. Maybe I'll send the stocker to MCC.
I am 5'8" too and I tried a Reach seat on my '06 'lectra glide classic. It was on my scoot for less than 24 hours. I hated it. The reason it is described as lowering you and moving you forward is that it has much less foam padding in it. It wasn't suited for my boney ***. It was the most uncomfortable seat I ever had. I went with the Sundowner and always wear Chippewa logger style boots with a thicker sole and higher heel.
