I recently changed from the old to the new style front engine mount. Old one was only a year old and still good, but after reading the threads on the forum, I thought the new one would help the shake at idle. Above idle it was fine. With the new mount I have found it to be much more sensitive to your tune. My idle shake is there, but not as pronounced. However the mid and upper rpm vibrations are stronger. More of a buzz through the floorboards, especially when accelerating.
Looking at the mounts it looks like the new version is a stiffer material and by vitue of it's shape looks like it has high initial damping and a decrasing rate. The older, softer mount is the opposite having an increasing rate. Bolt tightness, unless you have slack, shouldn't make a difference as you are only capturing a bushing which is completely isolated from the frame mount.
I am not sure what this all means in the end. I know when I was playing with my PCIII settings it had more on the effect of vibrations than the mounts did. Generally for comfort the softest isolator you can use without bottomong out would be the best way to stop transmission of vibration, but if there is something going on like harmonics with the handle bars or floorboards, you can tune those out with a different damping rate. For what ever reason Harley changed, It may or may not smooth out your motor. I plan on switching back tonight (50 minute job) and comparing the ride now that I have the motor tune where I want it.
Considering the fact that this particular vibration started after the motor mount replacement, it may be safe to assume that therein lies the problem. So what I think I will do is remove the motor mount, re- install it and see what happens. What about the stablizer attatched to it, what should I do with it? Maybe that's the problem. Is it possible that the mechanic did not adjust it correctly? What is the procedure for adjustment? I heard somewhere that if you loosen all the motor mounts and start the motor for a minute that it will settle in the right position and then you tighten the mounts back up. Is this true? Doesn't sound right, but you never know.
I didn't, and cannot take my motorcycle back to the shop because it is 230 miles away.
Thanks for the replies and advice, everyone.
Have you have your rear mount inspected as well? It's always easier to change the front mount, and neglect the rear mount. This can also be broken. Your engine should run very smoothly above 2000 RPM. How does yours ride at this RPM?

Had the front motor mount replaced on my Electra Glide Classic at an independant shop while on a trip recently. Since then, at 1300 to 1800 RPM's my motorcycle vibrates so bad that my fairing, windsheild and handle bars are rattling to the point that they are making noise. I can see them shaking like crazy and cannot see out of the mirrors. The motor was smooth before except when at an idle, it would shake a lot. I confirmed that there is indeed a new motor mount there. I can no longer allow this crazy, intense vibration to continue, but I do not know what to do. If anyone can offer a solution, I will be thrilled and forever grateful. This beautiful motorcycle just can't vibrate like this anymore, what a waste.
I should add, I do not want, nor can I afford to take my motorcycle somewhere, (especially a dealer) to have it repaired. I have to do this myself. I am not new to wrenching, just new to this motorcycle. Everything is different from the 1980 Wide Glide I owned and worked on for 12 years.
Thanks, all.

It becomes smooth at 2000 and above. The reason I am concerned isn't just because of the vibration that wasn't there before, but because of the intensity of the vibration. I plan on taking a look at all the mounts.
Well I had a 50/50 chance and sure enough (now that I can see a picture) I installed the mount UPSIDE DOWN![sm=headbang.gif][sm=nothatway.gif] The new mount has a flat side that is exactly the same size as the large metal washer so I figure.......... anyway, that flat side is the TOP. The old mounts were plainly marked. Not so with the new one. I'll change mine tonight and see if the vibration changes.
Well I just finished re-installing the mount. To get the weight off the engine mount I jacked the motor about 1/8 inch off the mount. Once I had it out I measured the two sides. The flat side (top) is about 1/8 in taller than the other side. Add to that the diameter of the flat side and you can see how the motor would be a little higher in the front and better supported. After I installed the mount in the frame I had to raise the motor another 1/8 inch to get the mount plate to line up with the bolt in the stabilizer bar. I started the motor and let it warm up and immediately noticed a difference in the vib. Watching my windshield bag as I increased the throttle off idle I didn't see that pronounced shudder. In short I think it is fixed. I'll know more tomorrow after I ride to work. Will keep you posted. Sorry to bother you guys cause some dumba** put the mount in upside down. Thanks for listening/reading.[8D]
