Default Before buying a RKC...

I been thinkin about trading in the Dyna for a RKC, I want some more room for two-up riding and love the classic looks, but after test riding I'm not too sure. As many stated, it did feel more like I was riding on the bike rather than in the bike and the handlebar positioning was not something I could get used, especially since I've been riding with apes for the last few years. On the other hand, I test rode the Heritage as well and it definitely put me in a more comfortable position, but I felt that the RKC would be the better buy for the kind of riding I'm planning on doing. I guess the real question is, can the same level of comfort be achieved with the RKC and can it be done relatively easy, without breaking the bank..has anyone went from a Heritage to an RKC and what did they do to achieve the same feeling of being more "in the bike". Thanks for the help!

Haven't come from a Heritage to a RK. But it is pretty common knowledge that the bars and seat on a RK suck. A good seat (I prefer Corbin) and a set of bars to your liking will make the RK a very comfortable ride. Plus apes on a RKC look great.

All I can say is I love my RK.

Yep, stock bars and seat suk on the Road King. But once you fix those you cand ride for miles and miles in complete comfort. Never had the feeling of riding on the bike instead of in the bike.

I've put 40k on my RKC in 3 years. I have a backrest, highway pegs and a Mustand Regal Touring seat ( very comfortable and the Ol Lady loves it too ). My bars are stock. I can cruise all day long comfortably with this set up. The Heritage has the shorter frame and no air ride either, so I would consider that when deciding.

I loved the look and sound of the RKC, and went back many times and sat on it hoping it would fit better. the short story was I would have had to get a new seat, new handle bars in order to make it comfortable. plus buy a backrest for the wife, or a tour pack. I just couldn't see having to put all that on a brand new bike to make it confortable. If you want a good two up bike I would go with the Classic or the Ultra. In my mind, nothing beats the Ultra and my wife loves the back seat and all the goodies that come on it stock. I haven't had to change anything on it, other than adding some more bling, and that's just because I wanted to.

Thanks for the reply's fellas! I guess I also failed to mention that I'm only 5"7, so that contributes a bit to the feeling of sitting on top of the bike. I'm hoping that shaving some height off the seat will help, I really don't want to replace or modify the stock suspension.

I don't think your height makes it feel like you're sitting on top the bike. That's how they feel with the stock seat no matter your size. New seat and bars and the RK rides like a completely different bike. Bars are 56-902 Heritage - type out of 2009 bling catalog and the seat is a H-D Sundowner with the RKC logos.

The bars are actually Heritage-type, they have the cut out for throttle by wire that would have to be made in a stock Heritage handlebar.
