Default Spoke Rims

Alright here's a question for all the experts here again. I bought a set of used spoke rims from a swap meet, and were pretty dirty (got them cheap). So I have the guy take them off with his tire machine and tell him I'm thinking of taking out the spokes to clean them up and put em back in. He says don't take them out, they will never be the same. Anyone any ideas or advise? I'd like to take the front row out and clean those all then take the rear one's out one at a time, clean it put it back and so on. I was told also I'd have to rebalance the rims. ?????

That doesn't sound right to me. It is good to have a spoke torque wrench.

Don't take the spokes out. Just clean them like they are. For one thing the spoke goes into the rim a little. So, it is not possible to take them out one at a time. If you start taking spokes out you will throw the true out. If they are really bad you could respoke it and true it. But, that is getting to be a lost art. Hope that helps.

You don't have to remove the spokes to clean them. It is just a very tedious and boring job to start with and if you are thinking of going through all of the trouble to remove and then re-install the same old spokes again, just to clean them up, why not replace all of them with Stainless Steal spokes to begin with? The SS spokes will look better in the long run too! Just a thought! Good luck with your project and ride safe!
