I put put on a sissy bar and docking station that I got from HD. The right saddle bag hits the bolts when opening it and the left clears it fine. Upon closer inspection, it looks like the right bag is held an inch closer to the fender than the left side. Is this normal? It is going to scratch the leather bags all up because it is hitting now.
There is a hinge stop kit that HD sells for $38 that will prevent the lids from hitting the bolts: Part # 90580-09. I know that this is for '09 models but I would think they would work on the '10 also-don't think the bags have changed. Note that it is "required for installation" of the bags on '08 and '09 but nobody ever tells you about it until your bags are f&*^%ed up!
wtf. that is ridiculous. I just spent 360 bucks on a damn sissy bar from the maker of the bike and now the bag will only open an inch on one side? I wouldnt even be able to get my hand in there. I can fit 2 fingers between the left bag and the frame and only 1 finger on the right side.
Had all that stuff installed at the stealer on the date of purchase along with handlebars and grips. They never mentioned this little kit and now the top of both my bags are dinged slightly! Really hard to see, but one of those I know it's there things-you know?
I have the 4 point docking system and if I opened the bags fully the top of the bag would hit the bolts of the docking station. Open your bag SLOWLY until they make contact and you should see what we're talking about. The hinge stop kit fixed this problem for me on my '09 RKC.
after further review, it turns out I am an idiot. The bottom of the one saddle bag was never set into the bracket all the way....in turn it holds the bottom out and the top in...making it hit. durr. i fixed the situation, but it still barely hits the screw. It appears that I can put a small washer on the bag bracket to pull it away just the 1/8" i need.
