All I am saying is I was in the same boat, and while waiting for the rumored 2010 Roady I took a moment and test rode a Victory Vision.
**Power windshield** Lowers. blah blah blah.... It really is awesome. Crazy looks, yes. Comfort, power, and all that.... Oh yes! And trust me, only Harley lovers--love Harley. Everybody else--eh, not so much.. The truth will set you free. Harley is awesome, but they have serious American made competition now.
Do yourself a favor and just try it. Even if you hate it, it will help you feel more confident in the 25-30k you will spend on the bike you buy.
I love Harley too, but when I looked at everything, I was not willing to sacrifice just so I could own another "Harley." I will always watch and wait for a new Harley that is worthy of buying, but for now...the Vision was it for me.
I have a Clearview (GT Small - to me it's not that small) with a couple thousand miles on it and took it off. Not because of buffeting but because it's too tall. It worked really well except the top edge is directly in my line of sight (I'm 6 ft.). I like to look over my windshield a couple of inches. I have to get mine cleaned up and sell it. I don't know if I'll ever find a shield that stops all the wind.
MarkR
You are 6' and the GT Small is in your line of sight??? Are you long leg/short torso??? Because I just ordered a GT Small and I am 5' 8". I look an inch over the stock shield.
yeah, pretty far.. Kansas to be exact. I'll just start at the closest dealer tomorrow and work my way out until I either find one, or find a dealer willing to get me one. I don't want to order and wait... I'm not very patient.
I just did a Mapquest for the distance from my dealer to Kansas City Kansas and it says 1100 miles. Hell, call my dealer tomorrow,
make the deal and jump on a plane and ride that sucker back by way of a non interstate route and you'll be all ready for your 1K miler when you get home. I did 13 hours to Nashville to get my bike last Sept. I'll even pick you up from the airport in DC or Baltimore.
doc cj i am not opposed to the wind i just dont understand how you pay 20k for a bike regardless of the screen and get buffeting like i said before i have a honda silver wing its a highway legal scooter with a windscreen and i get no buffeting now how can that be? i will tell shitty design and r&d its that simple and your right i did research but they got me harley that is we all are victims its like we show up and the tell us to drink the kool-aid and we all do what bullshit matbe i ll ride up to milwaukee and shove this bike up willie gs *** lol!
I know exactly how your head feels in regards to the buffeting...same as mine feels trying to read these paragraph length run-on sentences with no punctuation.

Just a test ride...
.02 cents only.
I test rode one. Was rather impressed, except for 2 major flaws:
1. Not nearly as powerful as their marketing would like you to think. My Stage 2 103" would eat its lunch.
2. Saddlebags are a joke (space wise)
But other than that, very FUNCTIONALLY impressive. But just too damn weird looking for me. (loved the floorboards)
I came off a non fairing bike and went to a SG. The buffeting was tolerable on my test ride but once I rode it home it was terrible. If your helment has a removalbesun visor take it off. My test ride helmet didn't have the visor. It made all the difference for me at 5'10". I have done 3.6k miles with the stock SG shield with some buffeting but it is very tolerable. It is so tolerable I almost went with a black 3.5" Klock Werks but ordered the 6.5" because cooler weather is coming. Come spring I may go back stock or order the 3.5. Who knows I may stay with the 6.5 I haven't recieved it yet because it on back order

I took one out for a test ride as well, with their stage 1 upgrade, and not only did I get buffeting on the highway, with the shield all the way up, the engine was soul-less when accelerating. I was asked to take it for a 2 hour test ride, and as soon as I hit the first u-turn on the NY State Thruway, I turned around and gave it back to the owner of the dealership. He just looked at me with stunned silence that I had come back so soon. That said, the seating position is probably the most comfortable I have ever experienced on a stock motorcycle... keeping my 2009 RKC, and will be watching how HD continues to evolve their bikes... nothing like em'
