I know which one I'm getting but was wondering what the difference is in the wiring harness that hooks up the controls to an aftermarket radio. Specifically the Pioneer p5100ub.
Here's how the Biketronics looked on mine with a Sony. Same type pigtail I would think. I am really happy with the Biketronics. Toured their biz and met the owners/managers before I bought. Great people and very helpful. EW
I am not 100% on this so someone correct me if I am wrong.
I thought the main difference between the two setups is that biketronics harness is pre-configured for Sony radios while the hawg wired setup has you tap into the harness on the radio yourself freeing you up to use a wide range of radios. Both plug into the factory harness to get the hand controls on the bars to work.
Much better question. They are both hard-wired. Both connect to the base audio connector that formerly plugged into the back of the HK headunit, then are hard-wired to the compatible headunit.
Before you buy the Hawg Wired setup you need to check out the BT480: Titan - 180 watts per speaker amp that Biketronics has. The biggest setup Hawg Wired has is 75 watts per speaker.
I've had both and gave away my Hawg Wired setup. Of course changing out the stock HK radio will be a big plus for you.
For those that have installed the Biketronics kit, if any, how hard is the install? I just bought a 2008 EG Standard and will be buying the complete kit. From what I understand, it includes everything I need and the install is pretty easy. How about the internal antenna? Does it work at all?
Biketronics plug and play,VERY happy with my unit on my 04 flht with hogtunes but lookin forward to an amp and speakers(6.5)when OBAMAECONOMICS Kicks in....For now ROCK AND ROLL never sounded better....AND YES auto volume is sweet...Beats turning doun radio at a stop to hear yourself think....LOL....
As far as antenna...Well mine is a autozone power unit..its ok close to station base but in boonies forget it....id like better reception and i think guys have had good luck with other ones, you might search it .....we all live in different areas so some stations come in stronger...
