I just finished a trip where two of the guys had soft lowers. One set was HD and the other was Dennis Kirk. Both had a elongated slot on the end to fit over highway pegs. It was cold and raining and they both said that they help quite a bit.
First, let me say either the cordura or vinyl will work with highway pegs, they are slotted. If the slot isn't where you want it, anyone with a sewing machine can sew up the original slot and put a new one wherever you need it. As soon as I found the slot wouldn't work "as is" I had the wife sew it up completely, then put them on the bike and marked where I needed it. She split the seam and stitched the edges to keep it from unraveling.
Second, I run them on my RK and they do allow me to ride in much colder weather than I probably would without. On the RK, these with the fork wind deflectors make a huge difference.
I have the slotted Harley soft lowers as well as the Harley saddlebag covers. Both in excellent condition if someone needs them cheap. Installed fog lights and Kuryakyn chrome lid trim so both items are sitting in my garage.
