I stop if they flag me down, or look lost or in trouble. Most of the time they are stopped to use the weeds (restroom), or getting a map or something out.

When I'm coming up on someone I give them the thumbs up and thumbs down signal and if it's up I keep going and if down I will stop.

i'll try too... obviously depending on traffic conditons, location etc.... Doesnt hurt just to keep another biker ocupied in conversation during there woes

I will stop unless he lets me know everything is fine. If not I will stop and see if I can render some aid.

Yes, Helmet on the ground, on the traffic side, not neccesarilly at the edge of the road, is a known signal, like the old white rag on a car antenea. I always stop if I can.

on a nice day with great riding weather, if everyone on a bike stopped, it'd be a real freeway rally in no time, as many bikes as there are on the hiways. if they're alone and appear to help, i have maybe met someone that i can help. one day i may be in some sort of jam and need help.
