Default Dissolving/weakening 3M adhesive tape

Long story short,

Anyone know of anything that will weaken 3M adhesive tape? I put a set of chrome covers on my Streetglide (fairing mount) mirrors, and now I need to get one back off. Anything I can squirt down in there to weaken the adhesive, or am I looking at busting the mirror out in pieces to get it out?

Fortunately, the cover is metal, and I don't care about saving the mirror, but if there is something I can weaken the glue with and be able to pop the mirror out, without breaking and cutting it out with a dremel, it would be better. .

3M makes an adhesive remover that you can get at wally world. Its got a blue top. You spray it on and let it sit and then spray it until it becomes soft and then you can just lightly scrape it off.

Put it in the sun to let it soften. Spray wd40 or goo gone and let it soak for a bit. Then remove.

I don't know if you can get it in there where you need it, but Goof Off works great for removing sticky residue from tape and such.

Spray some Goo Gone in there and take something small and somewhat flexible and slide it in there to try to separate the cover from the mirror. Try a large straightened paperclip with a bit of electrical tape wrapped around it to prevent scratching.

3M adhesive remover Part# 6041 or WD-40, follow with dental floss...wrap it around 2 screwdrivers... slide it behind the cover... use a back and forth sawing motion to saw through the adhesive tape. Works on tank emblems as well...take your time and all that you will damage is the adhesive !!

When I removed the reflectors (3M tape backing) from my rear fenders, I blasted them with a CO2 fire extinguisher, took a screwdriver and popped them off. Carbon-Dioxide freezes at minus 40 degrees so it might crack your mirror; I’m not sure.

I'd be very careful with Goof Off on anything plastic. It has a tendency to melt certain plastics. Unfortunately I have damaged quite a few plastic things with Goof Off. I think the WD-40 route is probably the safest method.

Just my advice from experience!

Goo gone, a heat gun, and feeler gages would be my choice
