Default Need Help Taking Front Fender Off

I looked through the Search tad and couldn't find or just overlooked...how to remove the front fender on a Streetglide. Do you have to remove the front brake caliber or not. I tried and there is a bracket attached to 2 screws on each side of the fender, but there or tabs that are bent around the screws making in hard to get a socket or open end wrench on the screw. I need to remove the fender to get a dent repaired. Any help would be helpful...Thanks.

Yes, you need to remove the front wheel, etc and flatten the tabs with a flat screwdriver or something. Don't forget to re-bend them BEFORE you reinstall the wheel.

Take the wheel off and get a screwdriver and straighten the little taps out that keep the bolts from loosening. Then you can get a socket on them.

The manual says to remove the calipers prior to taking the wheel off but I've been able to keep them in place and still get the wheel out with a little effort. You need to bend those tabs down to get at the fender bolts. Tape up the fender or forks so you don't scratch it coming in and out. Not to hard if you have a lift or some 4x4's and strong friends, but it took me a couple trys to get the alignment right the first time I did it.

I was able to flatten the tabs without removing tire.

You will need to take the front wheels off and bend those tabs back. I took my front frnder off this past winter to do a little touch up paint work to it, and ended up breaking the tabs off. If you do this two ways to put it back on. Go to your stealer and buy a new set of those parts to bend back over, or like I did, just put the original one sback on and use locktite on the bolts. If you have a manuel it tells you how to in there, and if not you may want to get one just so you have visual of how it goes back on. Also the brake rotors do have to come off, but you can do that as you take the front wheel off. I thought this job was gonna take me and a friend up to three hours to do, we had the tire and fender off and the tire back on in fourty minutes.
