Getting Ready to install my new sony radio in my 2001 Electra Glide.. Does anyone know what wire on the Factory Wiring Harness that is 12v always on wire?
yes I got the BikeTronic kit.. but I just got the mounting kit without the module for thumb controls. so I need to fine a wire that is 12v always on
I can't tell you by memory which wire it turned out to be, but I can tell you how I found it. I kept testing the wires in the radio plug with the ignition off, with a fluke multimeter, until I found one with voltage. But If I were you, I'd order the handcontrol kit and wire it properly. The use of the hand controls is a VERY nice feature, that I wouldn't be without now.
If you don't want to spend that much money and feel comfortable splicing into the factory wiring, you can buy a Pac Swi-X ( Pacific Accessory Corp- Steering Wheel Interface ) to interface between the deck and hand controls using infra red transponder. That is what I did and it is much cheaper at about $50.00. It works with almost any deck made that has IR remote capability.
