Don't know of an adapter; probably because it's very easy to simply remove the wires from the 23-wire connector and install them in the correct 35 wire connector. The 35 wire connector you need is in this harness kit from HD which includes the p/n:

http://www.harley-davidson.com/en_US...ts/-J05181.pdf

IIRC, the harness lists for $20.

Removing the wires from your current connector and reinserting them in the new connector is explained in this link:

http://www.tycoelectronics.com/catal...?RQPN=776164-1

Just click on the "instruction sheets" tab.

Removing the wires from your current connector and reinserting them in the correct chambers of the 35 wire connector will require access to the wiring diagrams for your bike and an '06 or newer model. This link will show you the '11 wiring for a variety of models:

http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=53364.0

While there is a lot of similar wiring between the 23 wire connector on your bike and the 35 wire connector (e.g. rider headset, passenger headset, rear speakers and passenger controls, etc.), the 35 wire connector requires additonal wires not found in your 23 wire connector for the CB module.

Any extra wires (i.e. those you don't have in your 23 wire connector) will need to be added to the 35 wire connector and run to their destination (e.g. from the 35 wire connector to the CB module's connector). None of this is difficult; just tedious since you're replicating the wiring on an '06 and newer model using your OEM 23 wire Ultra connector rather than the non-Ultra overlay harness (NUOH) that would normally be used for adding CB to an '06 or newer non-Ultra.

I retrofitted the Harman Kardon radio w/ CB on my '04 EG and, while your installation will be different because you have the Ultra wiring, it's the same in that you still need to replicate the wiring of an '06 or newer bike. My installation was simpler in that I used the NUOH and HD's 77108-09 kit that provided the hardware an Ultra would normally have (rider and passenger headset connectors, etc.) while you will be removing the wiring for these functions and reinserting the wires in the 35 wire connector.

Bottome line: You can easily replace the 23 wire connector with the 35 wire connector using wiring diagrams to show where the wires go in the new connector; and, you'll need to provide some additional wiring to hook-up the CB module and perhaps other miscellaneous wires depending on what you find when comparing the wiring diagrams.

First let me say Thanks for your input ..I am not sure if I made myself clear and or the answer still is the same ..get the right plugs and swap the wires .... I have 2 plugs on my old radio and 2 plugs on the new radio ...same procedure? ..both old bike and new radio were am/fm/cd/cb/intercomm and am/fm/tape/cb/intercomm both with handle bar controls and weather channel both with 2 plugs on the back ...the plugs are just different shapes and I presume 3 of pins ... thank you for any more input you alredy have been a great help................

totally different wiring is what Harleypingman is saying and must be modified to accomodate the new radio on the old bike.

To clarify, of your two 23 wire connectors; one is the Base Audio Connector and can be plugged into the HK radio. Your other 23 wire connector is referred to by HD as the "Ultra" connector and it is that plug that must be depinned and the removed pins (i.e. those that are the same in the '06 and newer Ultras) inserted into the new, 35 wire connector.

I wrongly assumed that you knew the difference between the two 23 wire connectors on your bike and would know that the Ultra connector was the one that would be replaced with a 35 wire connector.

Once you transfer the wires from the 23 wire Ultra connector to the new 35 wire connector, you will also need to supply the wires from the HD CB module to the 35 wire connector using additional sockets for the wire ends going into the 35 wire connector, and a new mating Deutsch connector to plug into the connector on the CB module. The new mating connector will require pins or sockets for the wire ends in the new connector. You can buy the new connector and the pins or sockets you need from your local HD store.

Once you have the wiring completed and the CB module installed, you'll need to go to the HD store and have the HK flashed by the Digital Technician in the Service Department to turn on the intercom function of the HK radio.

All of the foregoing requires that you have a wiring diagram for your bike and an '06 or newer Touring models wiring diagram of the audio functions so you know which wires to retain from the Ultra connector and where they go in the new 35 wire connector; as well as identifying the additional wires you'll need to add for the CB function and perhaps others.

Basically, what you're doing is replicating the wiring on your bike to that found on an '06 and newer Ultra which will require some additional wiring and parts to accomplish.

I did a similar project on my '04 EG, but since my bike is not an Ultra, I used the non-Ultra overlay harness (NUOH), p/n 70169-06, that supplies the 35 wire connector to the HK radio, as well as the connectors for rider and passenger headsets, etc. The installation is described in this thread:

https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...tra-glide.html

Since you already have the wiring for the rider and passenger headsets, passenger controls/speaker pod wiring, etc. already inside the fairing and simply needs to be transferred to a 35 wire connector, adding the NUOH doesn't make much sense for your project.

In the above thread, you'll see a wiring change for Automatice Volume Control (AVC) that I made and you can do the same if you like.

Frankly, unless you have a compelling reason (adding HD's XM, NIM, or Ipod modules) to swap out your current set-up for the HK, I'd leave what you have alone. If your current radio is causing problems, Radio Sound can swap out the unit in your bike for a refurb unit for about $250. Radio Sound was HD's vendor for the radio in your bike; their customer service can be reached at (502) 267-6768.

Good luck with your project.

Would this also be the same for an 05 Ultra Classic?
Thanks, Bill

Carl, do you happen to have the wiring diagram for a 2002 Ultra? I am having a very difficult time finding one and my local dealers won't give it up unless I purchase the manual.

I am also wondering if you might know the answer to this Carl -

If I purchased a non-ultra overlay harness 70169-06A can I just plug that into the HK radio and then plug the appropriate plug from the harness to the cb module that I add? Then would the other plugs work for the harness that already exists for the rear speakers, intercom, etc?

I am trying to determine if I want to try and take the time to pin a new plug and then figure out where the appropriate wires would pin for the cb and also create a new deutsch plug for the cb from the 35 place plug - or if it would be a lot less headache to purchase the overlay harness.

I hope this makes sense. I guess, put another way, would a non-ultra overlay harness plug up with existing 2002 features for cb/intercom/rear speakers?

Thanks for any info.

If'n I was you, I'd just do it the way HPM (carl) Said, when you start trying to take shortcuts, it often times ends up costing you more time and money.

If you don't have time to do it right the first time, how will you ever have time to re-do it?
